Hey @QWymer, thanks ! I bought a course called "Python for data-science and Machine Learning" some months ago but never started it. I actually learned a little bit of python in the past, but it was basic stuff. My goal is to learn these new libraries and dive in this data science/machine learning area since it's pretty correlated with my college/master's degree.

Day 17

I'm failing a little in journaling in the weekends. My life when I'm with my SO gets a little less organized. It's not that she is the one to blame for that, actually it is quite the opposite. She is not a person that encourages me to keep on track with my stuff, and although it would be good for me if she was a little more motivational in this aspect, I learned that the biggest motivation comes from within. When I'm alone I gotta be able to keep myself motivated, just as when I'm surrounded by people. Period. I already did some work on being more disciplined when I'm with her, but I'm gonna make an extra effort.

There is nothing really great to report from the weekend. Went to a party on Friday night and had a lot of fun. The weekend was pretty slow, watched some Netflix and a movie with my SO. Did some cooking on Sunday, so I have meals for the whole week (yay!).

Today I woke up later that I wanted to. Usually I feel a little tired on Mondays, I should try going to sleep earlier every Sunday. In general, today was a good day. At night I got pretty excited practicing guitar. I got like 2 hours of practice, which for me is a pretty long time. I practiced so much that I ended up with no time/motivation to begin the programming course (pretty sleepy already). I'm gonna start it tomorrow!

Day 19

Not a good day. Relapsed to fapping and porn once, so that's a reset on the streak. The worst part is that it leaves me feeling like crap afterwards. The days after I catch myself thinking "Well, I already relapsed and I'm feeling like crap. What's the matter with doing it only one more time?". Shit. I deeply regret the day this awful habit crawled into my life, but that's something I'm gonna have to deal with for the rest of my life.

Looking for the bright side: I stayed 46 days clean from this plague, only relapsing once. My relation with my SO improved A LOT with this change of habits, so that's a win. A single relapse won't ruin it, it's just a number that have been resetted. Now I'm gonna get back on track and stay clean for an even longer period of time, and that's it.

The worst part is that it wasn't a stressful day at all, it was a normal day. I relapsed by pure lack of willpower, and that annoys me a lot. But fuck it, the past is in the past and I'm gonna do better in this next streak, starting today. Reflecting right now, I think I gotta change my approach to cellphone usage. I can't expect different results if I'm doing the same stuff over and over again. Doesn't make sense quitting porn/artificial stimulation if I still look at women at social media or random browsing in the internet. I'm gonna have to think about something to do regarding that.

What caused you to relapse? You said it wasn't stress, but lack of willpower. What caused the urge? Sorry you relapsed. 46 days is longer than I've ever gone.

That's a hard question to answer... I think the habit of pornography consumption takes a long time to go away. I don't even know how long, but it certainly takes a long time. I think the urge came simply out of habit. For example, seeing hot girls in the gym/internet can trigger these old habits and boom: one moment with not enough willpower results in a relapse. In stressful times it's even harder, but thinking about it, in the end it's all about willpower too. Well, let's try to do better next time. I'm resetting today and I'm aiming for a good streak, let's go!

I'm almost at 5 days now. It's so difficult for me to look at women now. I just want sex. I feel like a monster because of it. It's tough. Fitness women are my weakness.

@BooksandTrees How can you seriously feel like a monster? 😮 Don't start that journey. You are a man. You have every right to do so, wanting to have sex. It is actually quite the opposite. This process is not about trying control yourself, count your nofap days or whatever and become a zen monk. This is actually about improving yourself up do the point that women also want you. Try to turn into that person that you become the weakness of fitness woman. And it is really not that much about the looks but more about the way you behave.

I agree with @Alexanderle, there is no sense in feeling like a monster for having desire. For me, quitting porn and fapping is about "fixing" the desire I have for women. In no way the desire is going stop, I'm positive of that. On the contrary, the desire for real women is going to actually increase (I felt it!).

The real question is, what you are going to do with your new "fixed" lust? It should be a motivation to go out there and meet real women. It should be a motivator to work on yourself to get the confidence to do it (everything counts, from hobbies to getting a new haircut). Don't feel guilty for having sexual desire. Use that as motivation to meet new women and have fun, that's it.

Day 20

Yesterday was a messy day... Since I have the flexibility to work from home sometimes, I decided to solve some problems at home. Ended up not doing a lot. Accomplished my objectives for the day, practiced guitar and exercised but in reality it wasn't a really productive day. Messed up some of my morning/evening habits too. It seems like the more free time I have the easier it is to screw up the habits I'm figuring to establish. I really work better when I have a fixed routine.

I'm questioning a lot my relationship with my SO. She's a great person, with a very kind heart. But like basically every person, she has personal problems: family problems, self esteem problems, and other stuff in her life. That's not an issue for me, since I have a lot of questions myself. The problem is how the tackles them. Sometimes I think she is too dependent of me, and that's contradictory, because she is a really strong woman, the kind of one that solves some "practical problems" (like work stuff, for example) really fast and efficiently. She is a natural for that kind of stuff. But when it comes to her personal problems she has a really hard time. I try to help her but she is really skeptical of having a "methodology" to get her life on track. For example: she thinks that me making my bed everyday and tracking this habit is bullshit, even though I'm tracking a lot of other habits and having pretty good results. She thinks that meditation is bullshit too. That's not a problem when you TRY it first. She is really stubborn when it comes to trying new stuff. In the end, she ends up doing the same stuff all over again and having little progress. And for me, the main problem is that in a relationship it is hard for you to look after another your partner when you are not looking after yourself. Sometimes I feel really lonely in this relationship. I feel that I give too much of myself and receive too little in exchange. I try to do things for her with an open heart, but in a relationship you kind of expect that your SO cares about you and give you support. Little things make a really good difference.

The other day I bought 2 books : The Power of Habit and Atomic Habits. I'm waiting for them to be delivered. Personally I haven't read both of them and I'm looking forward to it since they have pretty good reviews, but I'm gonna lend one of them to her. Maybe she gets excited and starts applying some of that stuff to her life.

It was good writing down this, time to start my day!

@WhatAboutToday? I looked into your morning routine, is it a good idea to write down to not look into your smartphone. Like already in the morning you focus on not doing somethin. Líke: Don't eat candy!!! Isn't this somehow a way to give extra attention towards that. A reason, why anti addiction programs sometimes fails, is because of this relieve that addicts feel, when they do something, they did not allow them to do. Just this pure release of tension. The question is: Why is the tension there? Like why are you checking your smartphone in the morning?

So I have varying success with that and I also sometimes check my smartphone in the morning. Actually quite often. I just want to. But then I start my day. And what really helped me, was to prepare some things in the evening before. Like a plant a glass of water next to my bed, I have my cloths ready, I just need to press the button on my coffee machine, everything to prepare my food is ready, I just need to automatically follow my procedures. Maybe this could be helpful.

The rest of your daily routines is really amazing and an inspiration for myself. Just that one with not doing something as the first thing in the morning is worrying me a bit. Your first activities should be boosters (like the feeling of fresh air, water or a nice tooth brush in your mouth). Take care man!

That's interesting @Alexanderle! To tell the truth, if I follow through my morning routine I usually don't check my phone, so the "No cellphone in the first hour" is usually accomplished. I think I'm gonna remove that and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nearly at the three week mark man! Good going so far. 🙂 Regarding your relationship, have you tried to express these frustrations to your partner? Sometimes a little communication is all that's needed to get the ball rolling. Everyone has weaknesses, but if they're open to hearing some constructive criticism and advice on them then that's usually a good sign. Best of luck with that.

Thanks! This time journaling made a big difference in how I track my progress. I already tried it before but I'm gonna try it again. A lot of times she isn't open to criticism, but in reality the only thing I can do is do my best to expose the message in the most constructive way possible. Thanks for the advice!

Day 21

Didn't have time to journal yesterday again, ugh. Actually I had time, I just wasn't organized enough to stop and journal. So, today was a pretty normal day. Went to work, everything went fine. After that I went to the gym and then home. It was/is raining quite a bit, so my travel was canceled. I guess I have to figure out what I'm gonna do this weekend, especially in a rainy day. Thinking about it right now, I gotta start planning my weekends ahead of time. Like planning a tour to a place where I never been before in my city (museums, parks, touristic attractions, random events, etc). I think I'm gonna dedicate maybe 1 hour of my week to planning that, it should be good.

My guitar practice was really weak yesterday, but I least I picked it up. Today I'm gonna focus on getting a good practice and get some good progress going.
