Dannigan
Hello everyone,This is a great website. I was browsing the internet for support on this issue, and decided to make this one my home. From an aesthetic sense, it's very easy to navigate around this site, and it's not cluttered with advertisements, which can be so distracting. So, kudos to the website designer. Also, the videos and links for resources are invaluable. I did watch the TEDTalks video and boy could I relate. Thanks for sharing it. WorkInProgress
Hi Dan,thank you for sharing your story. This will be a turning point for you. You seem to be very reflected about your decision and this self awareness is one of the hardest and most important steps for change. Be honest with yourself and work everyday a bit more on the things you want to achieve and I am sure you have a whole new life in no time! Emotions stirring up in the first two weeks is normal because you give something up, what meant a lot for you for a long time. Youre action plan seems awesome! If you want some infomaterial about dating and socialising I would recommend you Mark Manson, he has some great articles about this stuff and is a fun read too.Greetings Mario
Cam Adair
Running and yoga are fantastic. I do both myself. The added social side will be a positive during this period of transition for you and the exercise will help with the numbness you feel. Be kind to yourself during this time and embrace this new chapter in your life. You've got this.
Rick Boon
Welcome Dannigan, You made a great decision. I can really relate to what your saying about the numbness, the abandoning of your network and the loss you feel (maybe not yet) about that. I hail from lotro to and i know exactly what you mean about most things you wrote. Keep visiting this forum, keep making descisions based on what you want, not what your games make you do. Stay strong.
Primmulla
Hello Dannigan, welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I am very interested in what you wrote, because LotRO is also my addiction, though I never cared about the social aspect of the game, what really mattered to me was visiting all places I knew from "The Lord of the Rings" - my beloved book. How did you came to be addicted to the game? Were you a Tolkien fan beforehand and loving Tolkien's books made you addicted to LotRO, or was it independent of your interest in literature? How are you dealing with Tolkien's writings once you've left the game? I am still wondering if I should quit reading all information, forums, websites, scholarly articles etc. about Tolkien so that I would not get any cravings about the game? I was looking for a female accountability partner, but I wonder whether you would like to be my accountability partner? From your post i deduce you are not female, but you are about my age and you had problem with the same game, so maybe it is actually more unifying than the same gender I am constantly deluding myself that I am not really addicted, you can find the links to my story here: http://forum.gamequitters.com/topic/1415-to-really-quit-gaming-looking-for-female-partner/#comment-8345
Falky
Welcome! You're quite lucky that you only found games at an older age, most of us have been gaming since we were toddlers haha. You'll smash you goals and this detox, just keep your mind busy. Good Luck.
