  1. Braindose, welcome to Game quitters. Since you now know you don’t want to be a gamer, who do you think you want to be? What are your new identity goals - what do you want your family circle and community to know about you? Imagine that your body is figuratively a representation of your troops. The troops are being told that they have to leave the dopamine sucker trap. The troops are now asking the general “Where are we heading to?” If the troops won’t given a clear practical order, they will remain in the dopamine sucker trap.
  2. What about bait videos titled: “One thing you didn’t know that will make you successful with women” ”What the 1% who succeed do that the rest don’t” Cameron befittingly called it the modern slot machines. Like watching this 5 minute video with bizarre info graphics will change your life. Then follow the conspiracy videos about a secret plan to target you (the viewer) personally, either financially or in some other way. The author goes on about that there is no way out of this global conspiracy other than to keep clicking on his videos. If i go back a couple of years, there were all these videos that explained the world’s secrets in under 10 minutes. Many years on and i realize that the only conspiracy was to sucker me into clicking on those pseudo educational videos to get money off me. they always prey on your greed, fears and curiosity.
  3. Good stuff reader, kicking the butt of the media monster, take ownership and protect your family, nobody is going to do it for you.
  4. 1st point, you are not going into a worse fatigue by abstaining at this point. Its just that the videogaming was the thing that blocked your senses from sensing all this pain. Don't believe the “one time lie”, stay in the detox and ask for help where you need it. You have to find medical professionals whom you can trust. You need a structured recovery program. I used to do low energy stretching when I felt like I could barely stand and this immediately increased my energy levels. Living without overstimulation is tough at first. But it gets better, but even after years I know that mindless scrolling is so much more fun than just doing my daily plan. But doing my daily plan is a first priority. You can now testify that media entertainment is designed to neutralize people and emasculate them. Much better means than using an army.
  5. Im feeling you on that point. Working for an employer can mean doing things you disagree with, but I’m trying to combine this kind of work with looking for business opportunities that will allow me to engage in charitable work. The only thing it requires a regular habit of checking opportunities and scheduling time for meetings. I also want to feel a part of community where I live and have my work be part of that community. Cameron earns his income and offers something of great value to his community by helping gaming addicts which is a good example.
  6. So you are worried with a potential loss in your mind? New games will be rolled out every year. I think 90 days detox is necessary to get rid of fog brain. After the 90 days detox, you will have a new perspective on what life without games means to you and be able to decide which is better. Reminds me of a fable of a snail in a well when a huge wave cast a fish into it. The fish tried to explain that it came from the sea, to what the snail replied “Is there as much water in that sea as in this well?” To what the fish replied “No! A lot more water!”, but the snail said “I cannot understand that, for this well is all that i have seen in my life”
  7. Great introductory post that shows a level of commitment and wanting to become a responsible husband, father and son. If you watch Cam’s video on his story, he enjoyed video games at the time of playing, and they meant more to him than just entertainment but it was not worth sacrificing his time and life for that experience. These are activities that bring down a man’s character and discipline. When I think about how serious the situation has become due to negligence on the part of developers and consumers of these products, it is on the level of a diversionary operation. The UK had a serious mental health crisis during my university years and it was definitely connected to unhealthy entertainment. Exploring one’s purpose is a great way to establish a mission. So I hope you find a great work that will help your community.
  8. My thoughts, having the title as exBfplayer, leaves the question open “What next?”. when you log in to post, the Bf3 in the title reminds you about your connection. From your posts, you are no longer a gamer by identity, you should give a new title to this journal. Like put your favourite sport in the title that you do actually play. If you are a runner, cyclist, or swimmer etc. Have that as the title because it will bring a new richer life sooner.
  9. Matt, I think you have to do targeted reading to destroy the fears and stress. As an example, Professor Meadows has a book called “Systems thinking”. In this book there is a chapter called “the systems zoo”. This chapter talks about a number of pervasive behaviors that exist in human interactions and explores the antidotes to behaviors such as “The drift to low performance”. I am not talking about your performance, I am talking about the organization as a whole failing in one way or another. I will not break it down here what I took away from that chapter. I think you may read and understand it in a way that benefits you. Suffice to say it helped me to overpower some of my assumptions and increase cohesion at my workplace.
  10. Don't ignore your important needs! If you set time aside for them it will earn you initiative and be a historic transition from a reactive nature where you are dashing from one task to the other to a proactive nature. I switched off the tv yesterday even though I was tired and played hide and seek with my son. I felt good about that.
  11. Welcome to game quitters, I hope with this conscious choice you are not only willing to quit video games, but the game that the modern society wants to force upon you. can you explain a bit more about why do you want to achieve your listed goals? What are you studying and what are your interests?
  12. There are many global bestsellers on financial planning spanning from the most basic rules on saving to the most advanced on how to predict market movements in shares, currencies and commodities. But you could explore your particular region and make specific findings based on that. I remember you writing on that some time ago. But even that literature may be plentiful in your country. It takes time to find a niche like exploring a subject in a novel way.
  13. Welcome to Game Quitters and it is Great having you here! Can you share more about your skills and interests at school? Try to put down what needs playing video games serves for you. Also, what at what times does your thinking of wanting to play activate. Please list locations, time of day and state if you can. When you identify these conditions you are better suited at reprogramming your daily schedule with healthy alternatives.
  14. It has been several months before I realized a pressing issue. “She no longer works with us” was the answer when I enquired about my workmate. But the real reason was revealed when I was told about how she confronted the management about the lack of management in that company. The management was having none of it and decided to fire a worker who was challenging them. I must not accept failing systems. I must not adapt to a failing system by sacrificing my time and health. If a superior system is ready to go, I need to be brave by adopting the new one. This new job is an addiction to me. As I think of it, it has a striking similarity to a strategy video game and gives immense mental rewards when I get the job done. My senses have been numbed. In the first months of this job, I could feel back pain and eye strain from sitting at the desk for too long. Now these warning mechanisms have eroded. As Cam mentions, the gamer’s back muscles are tensed up, his eyes are strained, but he no longer feels it because the habit puts him into a sense of trance when he is playing.
  15. I wonder about the latent child mentality. It will linger for some time in the following ways: Not enough will to make a decision, assessment blocked by emotions; Not enough will to to defend one’s actions and contest an issue. Too much energy allocated to cleaning and putting my things in order. Insufficient energy allocated to quick planning, health and working out, memorization of core subject material. What is a doable plan? How much of work is my personal responsibility and how much of it can be delegated? i overpowered my desire for cleaning and went ahead to have my first workout in weeks yesterday, felt relieved. What job would be a better use of all of my skills and a return on my investment?
  16. I agree, Accepting your weaknesses is about being honest. And being honest is being intelligent, it uncovers new approaches to given problems and strikes you with how powerful and resourceful you can become.
  17. I don’t doubt her competence, but the greatest allure of all things on earth for men are women. This can come in as a barrier for effective work and can even compromise a person. Which is why I accept to work when interaction is minimal with the opposite gender.
  18. I have been offered a move to another department but I feel that i will not take it because of the manager’s attitude of being very informal. This is a risk because it is likely to produce a lot of unwanted emotions.
  19. Okay, I dropped screens, and now I can decide what to do with my time. The resets that I use to feel better when the screens are a no go: Going outside to a coffee shop. This is a money waster if done on a regular basis, but could I use a better alternative? Morning exercise routine, language learning, job searching. With these three, they are not being acted upon in a structured manner. There are no monthly, quarterly and yearly exams! I have to set them up quick otherwise my old habits will start pulling in no time. With language learning, I need it because I am going to apply for jobs abroad. With exercise I have to prevent onset of various health problems. With job searching, i have to fanatically drive for the job that I identified. I need to start learning the medical profession. Including causes of certain ailments and ways to prevent and cure them. I want to get better with workouts but I need to add a game element into them.
  20. A day count is great in order to see a different life, without day counts I would not discover healthier alternatives to my habits. The goal with the journal is to detect areas of improvement basically. I was able to work out a solution yesterday just by writing my thoughts down on paper. My current practice area is financial services marketing.
  21. I negotiated a pay raise, but the company has financial problems at this moment as a result of a number of mistakes on the part of management. I feel that this is my company to some extent and my responsibility too. But I need a higher pay. another issue is I need to work out certain work that i cannot take because of legal ramifications. That is it for now. I stepped over my fear and did something I am not accustomed to- took initiative in asserting my interests.
  22. This is true, planning works well if you are learning something new and getting an outlet for all of your needs. following a schedule that doesn’t tackle an important need can be harmful. Good to see that you are on the lookout.
  23. Rock on man, stay there. In a boxing match, sometimes the opponent catches you and unleashes an attack, so you’ve got to slip punches, weave and clinch. Then when he tires himself out, you go in for your attack. You stick to healthy alternatives and you will call the enemy’s bluff soon. Remember these media specialists designed products to trap you, so you have to take a step by step approach, and take care of yourself and find support from family and friends. I cannot tell you what an empowering reward it is to bring the mind to its healthy state, when simple things like playing a sport is all you need.
  24. I forced my body to accept reduced meals last week. I was feeling weak but good and much more energetic. Then I came home tired from work on one day and my idea was to eat more to compensate for the hunger I felt. I woke up feeling very sick. Just as you said - connecting two meals. The thing is, I don’t know how much i should actually eat. At the moment I follow a one plate rule with no snacks, but it may not be enough to keep me nourished, will try to get some guidance on the right amount of eating. I think watching basketball on TV will slow down my eating speed and make me healthier.
  25. Matt, I decided that I will not be in need of it because I will be carrying books with me and targeting issues of concern instead of avoiding them. Speaking to people is a great way to take one’s mind off stress. Plus internet media is targeted at capturing attention primarily, much less with educating. This confusion between advertising and education is having a negative impact on knowledge. ofcourse there are websites apart from social networks that serve the primary need of education and spreading beneficial knowledge. I am not speaking of all sites.
