  3. nice going I fasted all food yesterday while drinking water and non-caffeinated tea and that water tasted so good at the end of the day the body just craved it. the first half of the day was a dry fast consuming nothing. I aim for at least one 24h fast once a week, it feels great and always look forward to that one day to take a load off of my feet though that's also what's so cool about intermittent fasting. Good stuff Nanner!
  4. I saw there are quite a few posts around here about ADHD, perhaps something helpful with forum search tool. If you haven't gotten rid of the games and systems yet it is a really big help when they are not there to look at anymore, it's a change your environment to change your life situation. A counselor that once spoke to me about addiction said for a general rule of thumb: if you don't want to be addicted to something then get it out of the house that way you actually have to go somewhere else to even attempt to get a fix. With cigs she used to buy a pack to have one then throw the rest away. Do you have family in the house that still games? That would be a challenge to you also though is not impossible I'm sure we could think of some sound strategy.
  5. Taking notice I have been procrastinating a lot with big daily goals that needs done. I'm of the opinion that procrastination is not always a bad thing but this persistent procrastination that's in the way of purging access to old game accounts just needs to be dealt with in a swift manner. I hadn't had my goals visible or written down anywhere so I fixed that. No plans for massive TODO goal lists I am totally fine setting new goals shortly after completing one, keeping it simple, not complicated. Also taking notice at what is enabling my procrastination - way too many pinned youtube tabs that persist after reboot while computer use is cutting into my quality sleep well beyond bedtime so something is to be done about this I have it set as my weekly goal now so this is a priority to fix.

Hi welcome to the forums I know what you mean about "this time feels very different" at least for me this is my source inspiration having come to a point in my own life where I've noticed that something needs to change and this is always what has brought me here. Don't know if you have yet or not but I say this is a great time to also find a professional counselor that feels helpful to you. For me I was fortunate to have previously gone to counseling for another reason before quitting games and those sessions encouraged me to get into 12 step programs I identified with which has helped me face childhood trauma and various addictions. Now days I think those programs are a bit flawed so I just kind of do my own thing but in situations where I think I need a stepping stone or a little more social support I find these communities very helpful and available. I rather love that GQ is here without much rules or obligatory program formats. I did go through some psychological changes still when I first committed to quit gaming they were mainly identity related. Though I did a good job getting rid of my games there was certainly times I could come across one I had missed or leftover system files leaving a shadow of a reminder and those times would challenge my identity like "hi, remember me? just who do you think you are?" then longtime local gamer friends judging and shaming the heck out of me leaving the same sentiment. Who am I, really, this is also a reflection of the issue I came across in self esteem building with my counselor as I often attached and equated externals to my identity, not seeing and acknowledging the core self for what it is. So my advice for anything relative to that is aim for the video game detox, start by getting things out of your life that can be a hindrance (especially the games/consoles/digital game accounts), and if you fail just stand up, brush yourself off, and be reminded of your motivation for this because failure is also something we learn from. Face, starting a journal here is quite helpful for support of our intentions. Thanks for the opportunity to hash all of that out a bit it did me some good!
  7. Intriguing! Kind of like the 90 day detox goal but applying the concept to building new habits and chasing new careers, this is really neat I may just have to use this soon, hope it goes well 🙂

Good stuff that's great you are preferring to be offline these days I was just talking on Pochatok's journal about disconnecting more from mindless media consumption I think a lot of us really fight to get on top of this. I'm guessing you replace internet with more books and social activities, what's a normal day routine like for you now on days where you would otherwise binge on internet?

This quote reminds me how thoughts of games we used to play early in the gamequitting journey can easily lead to a relapse or give a tough time fighting it but later as we detox our brain just doesn't care because we no longer identify with it as we are successfully detoxifying from this giving us mental diarrhea. I had tried once to totally unplug one time and it didn't work out so I'm here taking notice you found balance by being more intentional with media consumption I think that is a very good goal. What are the best suitable replacements you have found to relax and unwind with instead? I am supposing books to be one do you often practice speed reading or do you more often take your time?

  12. Hello Nix is gaming taking up your time also these days or have you been abstaining? I know I am the type that procrastinates things while gaming or not but far more when actively gaming. So much more free time while abstaining it leaves no choice but to set time on other areas of life for sure though advice for zoning in on specific hobbies after that point I think set small achievable goals here and there not trying to accomplish too much at one time is key.

It's been about two weeks in since starting no pmo with nofap, since buying the house plant, and since getting back on a workout routine - my face is now mostly clearing up maintaining its moisture where it was dry, flaking, and cracked. I've done all these things on routine before but never happened to of been at a point where I noticed it affect my skin condition any though I'm sure the workout routine is most likely affecting the skin. No diet changes I eat the same foods though I know more vitamin K will be quite a help as well I'm just terrible at that one though I have tons of broccoli in the freezer I'm never thinking about including it. I like it boiled at least 3 minutes so this is a simple thing I just need to get in the habit of adding some in just before a meal finishes up. Edit: Microwave Broccoli too!
  16. found more online game accounts to delete which is still being taken care of have been taking it pretty easy today aside from upper body workout yet noticed I am progressing well - I will get to be adding more weight soon! I have also decided to update journal only 1-2 times per week from hereon to space it out and give myself a break from checking updates so frequently.
  17. Your father is smart! Mine is a gamer 😂 I think the roots and footprint of Gamequitters is a big help making a decision to quit. Youtube video content, GTS podcasts, GQ forum / articles / programs are such helpful sources of inspiration.
  18. Thank you for the encouragement, exactly! As you well said it's just the cards we get dealt in our little pocket of evolution. My condolences to your own trials, bullying is no fun at all. For myself I was fortunate to have been led in to the 12 step societies after a series of unfortunate events, so they were fortunate events in disguise .. it was quite a stressful time but it was because of such times that I began to grow stronger and evolve from it. I don't agree with everything about the 12 step programs but at the very least it has served me as a path to more growth. I really had no kind of handle on emotional intelligence before all this. I used to be full of self hate & blame growing up. When I first started the addiction meetings I started redirecting that hate & blame at people such as my family with thoughts of childhood victimization but that was just another phase as I really just wanted to find some kind of peace for myself. I have found peace about it all, I am enough, we all are though I do feel I sometimes still have negative feelings for family when I bring them up, I just have to keep working on that and shake it. It's that internal dialogue of thought we repeat to ourselves consciously and subconsciously, those thoughts become our reality and that is a very powerful thought. This is my "goodvibes" namesake. Time to time I may slip & stumble but as you said I will get back up .. Good vibes to all as a reminder to myself and anyone that as you get back on your feet to go for everything you can, stay positive and kind to yourself because you can do whatever you set your mind to! Thank you everyone for stirring in this thought provoking thread it might be a help to somebody, it did me well.
  19. Lot of great news there thanks for sharing Books! If physically able and with good form, practicing calisthenics can help with good posture. Would also be doing stretches before and after workouts so perhaps would be enough to help with the flexibility staying limber though of course Yoga stretching is all about that too. Old pro wrestlers seem to do much better with a yoga routine too just to highlight its effectiveness.

  21. I remember listening as a child to a youth minister's sermon convincing me that gaming was a "bad choice" .. I just lacked having enough tools, information, motivation and/or inspiration to make any changes to do anything about it. That and my family was enabling my gaming problem by buying me video game consoles and games .. they discouraged me from changing the norm on a regular basis by screaming and beating the crap out of me when I did something wrong. I didn't start making efforts to quit gaming until I quit a career only to start investing a ton of time into games. It's was the realization that I could still be in that career and thriving if I had given it the time and attention it needed and that games was always getting in the way of this.

  24. terminal rss reader colors now functional in TTY go figure that it doesn't support 256 colors but the mpv video driver does oh well this program is a sharp tool for quickly catching up with content and moving on about my day, quite a wonderful addition as I see it. tweaked workout script a bit more, intend to publish that very soon.
  25. Entrepreneurship is such an ideal goal for us GQ folk, I think so at least, I love the thought of this we have so much untapped potential neglected by all of that game brain time!
