  1. "The great soup fire of 2015" haha. That will remain a classic event on the forum. For those of us around for it, it shall be a fun inside joke.
  2. Thinking of you today man! Appreciate all of your support on the forum.
  3. Can't wait for the karaoke video!
  4. Hey! Welcome to the community, it's awesome to have you here with us. I relate to you with the athlete thing, because growing up I was a very good hockey player and eventually gaming took up more and more of my time and I spent less time focusing on training and getting better. It's one of the regrets I have honestly. So since then I've been working hard to make up for it. We're here to support you so let us know how we can help. If you haven't seen these videos, they will help: - How To Stop Mindlessly Browsing The Internet - Should You Watch Gaming Streams?
  5. Hey! Another member from Finland! Awesome! Happy to have you here with us. Congrats on 80 days! That's quite an accomplishment. We have an awesome thread to celebrate 90 days so make sure you do that when you get there (so soon!) Excited to follow your journey. Let me know if I can help at all
  6. Did you have a matching duck costume?
  7. Hey everyone! Should you be watching gaming streams? Here's my latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm_W2HGe584
  8. Awesome, when I make it out to Toronto/Ottawa we'll have to find a way to meet up!
  9. Any of the books here are great.
  10. Always love seeing another journal up here. Can't wait to follow along. Where are you from Jay? When it comes to your brother's gaming stuff just try to focus that much more on being out of the house more often and following the steps outlined in Respawn to have other activities going on. Also, when he's gaming, I'd create a boundary around his room and not spend any time watching him play. That almost always leads to a relapse (Alex's journal for an example.)
  11. Vulnerability is hard for all of us - especially as men. But leaning into it one small baby step at a time will pay off in big ways long-term.
  12. Love the dance video! You're giving Leprosy a run for his money! I also use Trello and like it a lot. I still use a pen and notebook for a lot of my to-dos but I use trello for bigger picture stuff and project planning/management.
  13. Have you seen the Wim Hof documentary yet? Bet you'll love it. http://www.icemanwimhof.com/vice-documentary
  14. Hey Alex! Thanks for sharing, it's important in moments like this when we may be feeling guilt or shame to be honest about our situation. Remember that relapse can teach us more about how to be successful in the future, so one thing you can take away from this is that gaming has been the way you've rewarded yourself in the past... so if you want to move on successfully you need to find new ways to reward yourself in the future. Also, having been bored for two weeks contributed so moving forward you need to be more intentional with your activities. Questioning why you are quitting is always good, because it allows you to get more clear on what you really want out of life. The thing is, this isn't about gaming being good or bad, it's about what you truly want in life. Gaming is truly just a way for us to kill time, which is what most people do. Eventually they stop gaming and then just kill time with TV and other silly things like that. But what are your ambitions? If you have bigger ambitions in life, your actions need to reflect that. Starting with your morning habits is good and you want to build on that momentum each day. Set bigger goals, that will help with your motivation. From my perspective, you should reset your counter and complete the 90 days (no gaming), but again the counter is just one small aspect of all of this... it's more important that you keep going forward. For studying, use the Pomodoro Technique, study for 25 mins, take a 5-10 min (non-digital) break, then study again for 25 mins. You can focus for 25 mins. Get out of the house and study at a library or cafe (Starbucks?) where you aren't so distracted by the potential to game.

    My Journal

Always love seeing another journal up here. When it comes to improving your ability to talk to people you don't know (especially girls), what are the challenges you're having?
  16. Haha that's an awesome night man! Stoked for you.
  17. Starting with a win is key to build momentum for the day! Great job Tom!
  18. Hey Jay! Great to have you join us here and I appreciate you purchasing Respawn - your support helps a lot! The community here has your back. All of the challenges you've mentioned are normal and common when you begin down this journey, and although it can be scary, it can also be exciting. You have a lot of new things you can focus on, and at least in my experience, learning how to create more meaningful relationships was a big part of my purpose after I quit - and it seems like it is for you too. We've got your back.
  19. Now I want to go to the aquarium! That sounds so fun. I know having a stronger relationship with your daughter was a big motivation for you to quit gaming so it's a treat to watch that unfold.
  20. I definitely relate to this.
  21. Congrats on two weeks! That's a big accomplishment to be proud of. I love reading about the positive changes happening for you. Keep going, it will continue to get better and better.
  22. Keep going dude. In five years what you'll see is that the rough periods are normal, and even though it's hard to see the progress within them - it's there. Even if sometimes it's there only as a means to remind us why we are committed to improving various areas of our lives. Rising Strong by Brené Brown would be a good book for you at this time.
  23. What is your novel going to be about?
  24. Well written! I also like the update to your blog design.
  25. Congrats on 12 days! Cravings are a normal part of the process. They will come and go over time. If you haven't seen this video on how to deal with them, it will help. One idea for FB if you only need the messenger is the Newsfeed Eradicator. It can help a lot. Excited to hear what you think of The Power of Habit and for you to attend the NJ meetup. The NJ crew is great.
