Miharu's log - Day 6

Today I am facing my fear and set myself in motion.

Whatever comes out after this, I can take it and deal with it.

Anyone knows what to do if I fear public speaking?

And increase endurance to work in front of computer. My eyes always feel tired after long hours of working in front of it.

@WorkInProgress, thanks for the recommendation.

about Public speaking : No idea but I am sure @Cam Adair has some insights here.

working at the computer: Make regular breaks(every 30-60min 5min walking /stretching, looking out of the window). Your eyes hurt because you keep them focussed at the same distance all the time. Give your eyes a break and focus things in a distance. It also helps your body to release some tension if you move it a little in the breaks. This also increases your focus on work in the work period. For me this was a win-win-win habit.

Hmm... the last two days is quite hectic to me. Had attended a job fair in other city.

Miharu's log - Day 8

So. Finished the slight edge. Moving on to Dale Carnegie's work. So far, I cannot remove my dependency from game music for mood regulator.

Right now, I'm busy relearning statistics stuff. Not exactly my passion, but since I've graduated from undergrad in statistics, I should follow through. Truthfully, I wanted to go freelance route (my parents nagged me to get a stable job though). Unfortunately my specialization works against this. I figure that when I have enough capital and partners, I wanted to create my own Survey and Research company.

3 things I'm grateful for:

My living parents, for being alive.

Libgen and those people who lend me their account for journal access, since my uni had limited access to those journal provider.

Pizza hut guy, who delivered to me in the middle of rainy night in 30 minutes.

What else do you guys think I should write?

Sunday. What a great day to work.

Well... I'm cooped up in my bedroom.

So, things to do today:

1. Install linux on my android, install R on my android. Figures out how to use R GUI on android, for all those graphics.

2. Decide to root phone or not. I wanted to block sites, then I don't know any way to edit hosts file unless I have a rooted phone. If I do, I'll void my phone warranty.

2.a. Figure out how to block sites with my modem settings, as a preferable alternative to 2.

All work and no fun makes me a boring person. All fun and no work makes nothing on my future.

Miharu's Journal - Day 9

So, as you can see above, I'm trying to take option of blocking all sites of porn, and my fiction reading. Well, since my operator blocked reddit, I have no problem in accessing gaming sites, as long as I disable the proxy. So far the urges is channeled to reading fictions, which I wanted to rectify. Other than that, the truth is that I can access porn using google image. So... this measure may not be effective.

Things that I am grateful for:

I am grateful for my notebook that accompanied me for 2 years already. To my wacom tablet too. Without it I had to resort to write on paper notebook to take notes. I am grateful for everyone behind R community for all the question they answered.

I like my notebooks too for notes. Sometimes I read through old ones and it's cool to see how notes I took years ago have evolved into my life over time.

Mm... I think we are talking about different notebook here. So... Commencing writing log.

Miharu's Log - Day 10

I don't really feel like writing anything right now. So, just progress report:

1. Taking up walking. Walking first. I'm pretty much living a sedentary lifestyle. So, I hate to work out, partly because I am obese, has asthma, and weak heart, partly because of laziness. Even I cannot sustain the seven minutes workout.

2. Relapsed on porn. Pretty much too much boredom right now. I cannot sustain long time focus, only around 40-50 minutes, then I had to change activity. am I ADHD? Easily distracted too.

So, my quest to block myself access so far haven't been successful. I don't know about hacking to muck around the directory of my wifi modem, searching for the elusive filter (either it is not implemented, when there is tick box to enable it, or I am limited in my knowledge). Anyone can teach me hacking?

Most people can't sustain focus beyond 40-50 minutes. THat's called the Pomodoro Technique. Basically you focus for 40-50 minutes, then take a 5-10 (NON-DIGITAL) break, then do another 40-50 minutes of focus.

I mean, fed up? wanting to do something else. I rarely want to continue an activity if I have feeling of dislike. I think 40-50 minutes is me on optimist. I could easily do an activity I like for hours (of course with taking breaks).

So. Today's log.

Miharu's log - Day 11

Had been perusing some statistics journal lately, My target is to enter the workforce again. Say, Is it wrong to pirate journal? Though, knowing that it is wrong still won't stop me.

I had some success asking authors about their research topics. Limited success in the past, anyway.

So, 10 days has passed, and the streak unbroken. With consequences of course.

The total time I've spent today on the internet on PC, as of now, is 6 Hours and 12 Minutes.

The question now is how to lower the mental effort to read non-fiction book and learn from them.

Miharu's log - day 1

So... without internet, I read 63%ish work of dale carnegie's work in one sitting. I wonder if this boredom can be solved with this. Will try to disconnect more. Some of them, like my dream diary, cannot function with no internet, though.

I feel like I keep procrastinating. Too much, even.

Mm... let's talk about kanji no owari, then.

To be honest, I tried to play it again. This one is the last game I cannot bring myself to delete. Yesterday, while waiting for dad coming on the airport, I played this game again.  Well... I'm bored. My data quota is empty, and I don't have any book with me.

So to say, I could clear N5 (84 kanji) meaning and reading as easy as usual, while I remember about 30ish new kanji in N4. So to say, my long term memory works with this game.

Right now, I am in dillema whether I want to allow kanji no owari as exception, or not. I don't have any urges of playing right now. Then again, I don't want to learn japanese right now. I am leaning to no. But yeah, I cannot bring myself to delete this game (it has sentimental value to me).

Plus:

I can remember kanji quicker.

I don't think I'm addicted. Then again, if boredom -> play games -> answering right -> reward becomes a habit again, then it'd undone the works. I wonder if the cues changed, it can become controllable.

So, compared to other apps on the phone, this kanji learning works better to me. The other SRS is really boring visually. One of my gripes with obenkyo is this, it is presented like a dictionary, where I cannot make heads or tails where I should learn first. Not to mention, the kanji is presented in grid.

Another, kanji senpai, is good. But I am not sure since it is a vocabulary builder.

The stress works with me instead of against me, it boosted my ability to remember.

Minus:

Whatever you guys say. We both already know.

1. To learn Japanese. I dislike hardcore mode, and I can play this one without any stat boost.

2. I get bored on this game less than 1 hour usually. It is rarely more than 2 hour.

3. maybe. my main focus right now is learning computer vision and mapping.

4. Mm... I'll try that. Taking up my wacom and draw huh.

Miharu's Log - Day 2

First of all, thank's @Davo36 for the youtube video, It has really inspired me.

So, day 2. I relapsed. Not binged, but I had relapsed.

To be honest, I wonder how nice it is to not have to check out my phone when I'm bored, to not have to boot up my notebook and browse away aimlessly. How do you make each of your action purposeful?

Miharu's Log - Day 3

To be honest, I don't know what to write right now.

Let's get started.

Today is not a productive day to me.

I will make tomorrow be.

- Miharu -

Miharu's log - Day 5

Completed how to win friends and influence people. Starting Outliers, will continue on rereading blink after that.

So. This is a trend of mine, after reading those kind of books, I don't usually apply it. I guess I had to change it huh.

Miharu's Log - Day 7

Before I sleep, let's review.

I am logging 51% percent productivity according to rescuetime yesterday. Will try to get that number to 55% today.

Next step:

1. Personal analytics in sleep behavior, so I would get to sleep better. Recommendations? I am kinda iffy on starting new habit when the other habit is not fully formed, though.

2. Increase my focus time, reduce my distracted time. Reduce mindless browsing.

Good goal:  sleep.  I believe that a good night's rest is the foundation for all health, both mental and physical.  Good job with your progress so far.  Steadily you go....

Tips?

~ one hour before bed, do not use any computer device, especially cell phones, and don't read.  Cell phones emit a certain light that actually stimulates neuro-activity, and keeps you awake

~ bed time should be consistent every day.  If you go to sleep at 10:00 p.m., try to aim for that time every day.

~ drink warm milk

~ no caffeine at all before bed, ideally no caffeine from 12:00 pm

~ drink herbal tea for relaxation:  recommended chamomile

~ listen to a relaxation tape, meditate, one hour before bed

Miharu's Log - Day 8

I slept 6 or so hours today.

So, this is my rescuetime stat yesterday:

6h17m Very Productive

1h12m Productive

6h44m neutral:

- Com.asus.browser 3h 24m

// Too many unaccounted time here. I think I should add this to distracted category. It is impossible to add add-on, which means that the time would still be unaccounted.

//

- Firefox 2h13m

- com.asus.launcher 46m

2h29m Distracted

- 59m was spent on this site.

Despite doing that, I still don't feel productive. It depends on the quality of the time, I guess.

Another glaring problem here is that I spent all time in front of the computer. My average for two days is 15 hours.

So, next course of action:

improve the quality of the time. I don't know how to, though. Try to achieve the flow state?
