Hey,

I struggle since a long time with nofap. I know the benefits are huge, but also because personal reasons I want to do that(hard mode). However I cant manage it... So I wonder whether you guys have some tips? Its time to get another thought because my own system doesnt seem to work.

Tips:

  1. Don't quit porn while quitting games until you've made considerable progress in one of them. Getting rid of two vices at once is almost impossible for a true addict.
  2. Be introspective into why you're watching porn. Are you lonely? Do you want a mate? Are you unfulfilled with hobbies? Do you seek fulfillment? Do you have stress, anxiety, and/or depression?
  3. If you're going to masturbate, I would suggest doing it without porn. Try this for a while and see if your urges go down.
  4. Try finding out when you're watching porn. Is it before bed, when you wake up, after work, after school, all of them? Start finding a new routine to do before this. Maybe in the morning you can exercise or cook a nice breakfast. Jump out of bed. Changing your environment is the most impactful way to stop watching porn. I highly doubt you'd watch porn and masturbate in public around people. Maybe it's a good idea to go for a walk, join a club, meet new friends, etc.
  5. Be kind to yourself. You have failed quitting porn before and you will fail again. Only by learning through our many failures will we find success, much like quitting games. I'm 48 weeks free from quitting games and it took me years to get this far. I will now take my lessons learned and apply them to porn. I tried to quit both at once and failed.
  6. Imagery helps. View your porn and gaming addictions like columns holding up a building. The building is your emotion, mental, and physical health. What can you do to replace those crutches? I became social and found friends in order to quit gaming. I realized I was lonely. Porn will probably be finding a girlfriend, finding fulfillment in hobbies, and being mindful of my life. If you don't replace the crutches, your building will fall.

Good luck.

It's mental. Just stop thinking about it. I had problems with it, too, but I just stopped thinking about it and it made me feel better. I can only afford to "relax" once a month

  • 8 months later...

This is limited for the religious, but I recommend this because it works for me. When you pray to God, make a promise that you will not masturbate for the x amount of days.
I successfully quit porn a month ago and I severely reduced my masturbation, and this helped me a lot.
