Day 77/90
Great question. I feel more present, I think that's the best way to describe it. I feel more in-tune with the world. With games, because you're constantly jumping into other worlds and other people's reality, you kind of lose sight of actual reality, and that's the same with everyone, no matter how much or how little you game.
The difference with a book or TV show or whatever is, with a game, you're controlling something within that world so it's a lot more ingrained in your psyche and it lingers, which I don't think is a benefit at all. With books and TV shows it's more from a third person perspective, you're not IN the world, you're just observing it, which I think isn't as damaging to your neural pathways.
I feel less of an addict that needs that next fix of pixels. I'm less stressed at work. I'm less stressed at home because I actually have time to do things I need to get done. Sure I'm lazy for an hour or two some days, but again I feel much more present with that laziness rather than jumping on a game, looking at the time and thinking 'where the f did that time go?! I want it back!'
The downside is I can't really hide my negative emotions with games anymore, so I have to face them head on, which isn't the best feeling but it is what is needed. I also used gaming to lose weight, as extended gaming sessions you forget/don't have time to eat, so I've put some weight on since stopping.
Thanks again for the great question @allanjchiang 👍👍
