  1. Oh lol, I remember someone mentioning that.
  2. Wow, how have I managed to miss this thread so far. Gonna read through everything before replying.
  3. Just pointing out that a number of people hangs on on Discord Chat every night, so in case you want to talk about anything at all (the topics I've seen so far range from usual personal improvement stuff to politics, music, pets, and dealing with cravings) hop on. Discord Chat. (The same link is also in the top menu.) You don't have to download anything or even register - you just enter your name and you're good to go. This also a good opportunity to talk to Cam directly as he's often on there too. (The GQ's own "Chat" that's also in the links seems to be empty most of the time, so Discord is probably a better option.) Discord Chart. PS: Not sure why there's a trigger warning, lol. Everyone seems really nice so far, but maybe I'm missing something :P.
  4. But srsly, I have no idea. I'll be 40 in 10 years. I expect to be a distinctly different person in at least a few ways by then. I think I'll have a lot clearer answer to this in a few months or perhaps even sooner. I still haven't gone to the therapist to sort out my problem, so until that isn't dealt with, I honestly can't say how my life will look like in a decade. I think it'll be pretty amazing either way. Good things seem to come to me as long as I show at least a minimum amount of effort and cooperation.
  5. Well, I'm not sure how controversial this is.
  6. I recently started meditating at the end of my "workday" such as it is right now. I find that's the best time. Also looked up meditating before sleep, but it's apparently not advisable as you don't want your brain to start associating meditation with sleep. Many people seem to do it in the morning too. Reddit has a very good FAQ on the topic. There's a lot of all-that-great info on it around.
  7. I think you'd get arrested if you did that here in Slovenia :^^^^^^^). It's a lot like Germany in that aspect.
  8. Started organizing my pictures a little. There's also a gamequitters folder. This still looks sad, tbh ...
  9. "Having sex with your daughter, sir." MOTHERFUCKER MY DAUGHTER IS *insert age* OLD.
  10. yay. I need to take some bullshit test as well, but it should be easy & I'll prepare for it anyway. It's a shitty transcription job, but it's at least something to do while I'm getting something else, something better going. Still waiting for some other replies though. One is from a guy who's basically paying people for creating convincing fake profiles to then test his fake profile recognition software on.
  11. I may have found some work that'll allow me to earn enough for The Cure concert and to make some other more urgent purchases. It's nothing amazing, and the pay isn't that great, but it's online. We'll see in a few days. I've actually been sending out applications since Monday for all sorts of stuff. Not being from the US is a factor though. Feel really tired and agitated right now.
  12. >sits on discord all day >journal on page 52 nice :3
  13. Watching shit is definitely to be avoided, but I personally also think that it's, in a way, better to just go and check it out when the thoughts become really intense. You do waste maybe 20-30 minutes watching it, but at least after, in an ideal case, you're not longer bleeding energy and focus by thinking about it. I think this can sometimes be ok as long as you're firmly aware that this is to be avoided as much as possible. I watched maybe 2 minutes of some WoW arena thing a few days ago. I barely think about it these days though. Really interested in what Cam and others think about that.
  14. That sounds intense. And eh, it's hard not to wonder when such coincidences happen. I remember when I stopped drinking for the first time in 2014; it was after I got out of hospital (nothing physical, it was basically a rehab with a program) and spent a few weeks just sitting at home. I then finally decided to go out, and the first thing I walked into when I stepped out of the taxi was a half full bottle of some weird flavored vodka. It just sat there on the bench with no one around. I spent that night and the next half a year completely sober. I think you should tell all your friends ASAP. Being asked to play like that is really dangerous even if you don't give in right away. It can slowly crumble away your resolve, and then one day everything just collapses.
  15. I know what the effects are. I just don't want to bother with quitting it right now; I'd typically fap once every one or two days as it is, which is pretty manageable and a severe decrease from how things used to be. Especially when I still drank regularly. When you improve certain areas of your life, some of your present negative behaviors will diminish as well. This is why you don't have to bother with quitting & fixing everything right away -- you're likely to run out of energy, and it's not necessary.
  16. Thing is, or at least that's my impression, most people who do quit video games simply move on with their lives and stop talking about it (at least in public). It's really important that we remain active here and on social media even after we sort out our lives; what I think would benefit us is a more active, even aggressive, attitude. An addict will fight with everything they have when their destructive behavior is pointed out. Until their lives aren't painful enough, and until they realize that they do, in fact, have a problem, it doesn't matter whether it's us or someone else telling them they need to quit. I'm not sure how much the fact that we've been there can help. Perhaps some. In my opinion, there's room for all kinds of approaches: softer and harsher. And of course, individuals should never ever be attacked in any way; what I have in mind with "aggressive" is more directed towards video game companies that now very obviously create those games with an intention to addict ... and then there's also general criticism of the gaming culture itself. This is all rather subjective; I'm not really a people person, so I'd rather focus on areas that don't have so much to do with constantly dealing with people 1 on 1, tbh.
  17. I personally don't mind; I just kinda wonder how come others don't mind since I'm generally ok with a number of things others don't seem to be, idk. We can talk about porn all day! I don't exactly understand those who manage to obsess with various mainstream porn stars; as far as I'm concerned, amateur is the shit. The only exception to that would perhaps be outdoor/public/risky videos that kinda fall under professional production because you can see the excitement on the actress' face -- genuine emotion as opposed to just the standard act. But this is why amateur porn is a lot better in general. The real issue with "public" video is that women are, at their very core, deceptive creatures and will do their best to minimize the risk of getting caught to near zero while still selling themselves as oh so exposed and being in public. Your back yard is not public, slut. This is also true for pro stuff like FTV Girls. Porn discussion. Gotta earn my NSFW tag before Cam takes it away. Who will click on my journal then.
  18. If you want to read a book about fear by a man who became a bouncer and got into many fights as a result, check this out: Fear: The Friend of Exceptional People. The guy became a bouncer with a specific intention to face his fear of physical confrontation, fighting. Now, he's a known martial artist.
  19. I tell them video games are shit. Then again, I don't have many friends. I wonder how come. I don't know about the porn thing. I find it a little surprising how you guys just talk about it; isn't it kinda like making someone a part of your sex life, lol. You're basically creating a mental image of yourself -- not -- fapping, and by that you create at least a hint of a different, much more, uhm, involved picture. Maybe it's just me.
  20. In the context Marquess is describing it's a bit more about how it's ok to play video games and we're not against gaming (focusing on the positives) instead of taking a harder stance that gaming is harmful. The reason why we do this is because the gaming community is very defensive and we have to be overly cautious in approaching them because if they sense at all that you're attacking games they shut down - many members of our community found us specifically because we were approachable, so it's important. More on that here. No disagreement there. It's almost never good to attack individuals. You can, however, attack (powerful) organizations and wider groups: companies that create games and the gaming culture in general. By attack I mean relatively severe criticism; we still don't want to look in any way ~triggered~; instead, the approach should always be from a position of confidence and strength.
  21. This has been the foundation just to build credibility. In the future I think with more research coming out (including our own) that will help a lot. Also, I hope to have budgets at some point to do more video/media related content where we can tell the story in better ways which make it more accessible to those outside of our community. Personally, I have too much work to do on myself to participate in any overly significant manner, but I'll definitely be more active when things settle down. I think I have have been a little too aggressive in some of my past attempts. Once I tried to take advantage of the #GamerGate hashtag and got promptly ganged down, lol. But I stopped responding soon & didn't link GQ so no harm done.
  22. gzgz on 30 dayz. Failure is pretty great indeed. It doesn't seem like you're about to practice it with this detox though.
  23. People will complain about everything. For example, I'll complain that you kinda look like JonTron on your new profile picture :^^^^^^^^^^^^^^). NOHOMO
