Let's think about the future. I don't project us playing Dead Space 3 for another three months. Over this weekend: She earned an achievement in Elden Ring. She spent twelve hours in R.E.P.O. (Averaging three hours daily since May 1st) I wonder if I'm that unpleasant to be with. I'll try to do something positive before I return.

Things have been happening. It's been two weeks since my sister returned from an overseas trip. Since then: She has earned the second-rarest achievement in Awaria. (F2P Game, Development Artbook sold as DLC) She purchased R.E.P.O. (a Horror Co-Op game introduced to her via her colleagues) We last played Dead Space 3 together on March 17th. She also bought DLC for Elden Ring yesterday. I'm struggling to process her decision now. It's moments like this when my body starts shaking from rage towards her. I have to do everything I can to distract myself from her. To respond to the above advice, I have been seeing psychologists & physiatrists for the past decade. With that in mind, I need to remember to take my medication regularly.

Committing to Not Buying Games (Jan 2024)
Ado Tori replied to Ado Tori's topic in Start Here & Introduction
A quarter has passed, so it's time to look at how things have been going. Current Games: Dead Space 3: [Co-Op Playthrough With Sister] (Purchased Awakened DLC) Dota 2: [All Hero Challenge] (Ready to Sell Excess Crownfall Items on Community Market) Rotwood: [Climbing through Frenzy Levels & Masteries] Roblox: [Acceleracers Realms] (Now playing on Mini PC with performance issues) Asphalt 9: Legends: [Playing for Maximum Upgrades] Completed Games: Windblown [Endless & Sanctuary Update Complete] Backlogged Games: Dungeons of Aether [Not Launched] Elsewhere: Completed a Two Day Workplace Course [User Experience/Interface] Continuing cosplay event attendance [Occasional harassment at events] Second trip overseas this year [First visit to overseas hobby store] I love Cam's addictive game tier list, using a rubric to measure longevity and monetization features. I spent the last few months exploring why I want to complete games; I'll save that for another post. -
I risk having panic attacks every time I interact with my sister. My panic attacks make me overthink terrible things, and I consider harming myself or others. With that in mind, I feel the best solution is to create a secure environment for myself. Prioritize being alone when she is home. Mentally prepare myself before she speaks to me. Focus on my own goals instead of satisfying hers. I might need to use a no-contact strategy because of how extreme our relationship has gotten.

I could update my other threads, but this situation has only deteriorated. Despite my progress in completing my backlog, my relationship with my sister has gotten worse. My elder sister and I are gamers, and we've amassed collections of incomplete games. My sister has consistently been critical of my purchases, be they games, subscriptions or consoles. This never sat well with me because I have put more effort into my backlog than my sister has. The altercation that inspired this post was an argument last Sunday. In 2015, we got an Xbox One and created an account under my sister's email address. (Getting the Xbox was her idea.) Ten years into the future, I'm the only person who uses it and that account. The problem started when I linked my Discord account to her Xbox Account, and her rationale was strange. She left her room and insisted people see her email address. (That was used to create the Xbox Account). From there, I had to explain to her that Xbox does not publicly display any user's emails automatically. (Or any social media platform). Mind you, she is not angry that I connected the account to Discord but believed I would give her data to scammers. This isn't the first time I have had to defend myself from such accusations. She once accused me of planning to buy a Nintendo 3DS after just purchasing a 2DS. She thought so under the belief that the 2DS predates the 3DS. In my other thread, I mentioned completing Dead Space 2. My sister has been waiting for me to do so we can play Dead Space 3 Co-Op. (Her previous partner gave up on the game in 2022.) Despite completing DS2 on January 30th, we played together only once, on February 7th. My sister alternates 5-day and 2-day work weeks, working 12-hour shifts. She has been on this work schedule for years. We also live together. The years of my frustrations with her have developed so much resentment and visceral anger for her. For everyone's protection, I packed a week's worth of clothes and left for a cheap hotel. I have returned home and relayed all this information to a social worker. Upon investigating my sister's Steam account, we discovered she has been playing Elden Ring instead. (I never ask her to commit to a DS3 session due to her lack of transparency and accountability.) The main games she plays are Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. Because of the escalation at home, the social worker wants to contact my sister to mediate. Because of her consistent dishonesty and hypocrisy over the past 5 years, I have no intention of forgiving her without significant change. I've decided to make allies and build my life outside gaming as a distraction. She isn't worth the effort as she is.

Committing to Not Buying Games (Jan 2024)
Ado Tori replied to Ado Tori's topic in Start Here & Introduction
Let's begin with perfectionism. Frankly, I find myself aiming above completion criteria/achievements. I've aimed for deathless runs or secrets the games don't even demand. Perfectionism also manifests in play-by-play. How far ahead am I leading? How economically did I finish an encounter? Competing in fun is confusing. If fun was enough, why are winners rewarded more? Punishments aren't always literal, but people shame and mock failure. There are also hidden caveats to success. When earning an achievement that only 3% of the player base has, there is the knowledge that the other 97% couldn't get there. The best way to explain it would be surviving eliminations in a reality show. Why is this mindset only for games? For me, it's because games are played by choice. Because of the consequences, people have to find income and self-care. Games don't test skills as much as characters because people decide to be there of their own free will. The knowledge that I did something many others couldn't gives me sober peace, and I try to dissect why I was able to push through. Aside from moving on when something's done, that is my motivation. -
Committing to Not Buying Games (Jan 2024)

It's a new year, so it's time to see how I did. I'll separate games into three groups within the scope of buying or starting. Mandatory Purchases (Required to complete current games) Bridge Constructor Portal: Portal Proficiency DLC [100% Completed / Achievements] (Base Game available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) Dead Space 2: Severed [One Achievement Remains] (Base Game available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) Dota 2: All Crownfall Pathfinder Packs [Crownfall Master Level 2 Earnt] (Dota 2 is Free to Play) Additional Purchases (Never played prior) Windblown [Currently 100% Completed, Awaiting Endless Mode Update] (Decided to buy after 2023 Game Awards Announcement) Rotwood [Not Yet Launched] (Seemed adjacent to Windblown, will play while waiting for Endless Mode Update) Dungeons of Aether [Not Yet Launched] (Still at 11/15 Achievements for F2P Lovers of Aether) Returning Games (Continuing previous games) Roblox: Hot Wheels Acceleracers Realms (No microtransactions present, started in 2021) Asphalt 9: Legends (No microtransactions present, playing on a premium streaming service, started in 2022) Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice [100% Completed / Achievements] Regarding excessive purchases, Steam seems to be the biggest offender. Returning to the platform after a three-year absence is the most likely cause. -
It's been a long time since I posted. I do have major updates. My CPU has stopped working. Since I have multiple consoles and laptops, I'm not hurrying to buy or repair the CPU. My new gaming PC is a laptop my sister used for University. Like my CPU, graphics have to be as low as possible. I will only consider CPU repairs after I complete a handful of games. Owing to a large amount of luck, many things happened last year. I joined a local interest group. Members of this group have monthly meetups. It is a very welcoming community with varying members of ages and experiences. I'll update the other threads I've made, to provide a clearer image of my lifestyle.

Right now, I can update my monthly journal. Instead, I'm posting here because my safety is at risk. I have already scheduled an appointment with a social worker. Over the past three months, I have been making great efforts to compromise with my family. Show more initiative at home. My sister consistently brings up a gaming incident from approximately thirteen years ago. Thirteen Years Ago: I made new friends at school, and we all have Steam accounts. My new friend starts asking me for TF2 items. I obliged over generic weapons until he asked for my Bill's Hat. (L4D2 Pre-Order Cosmetic) After consulting with my sister, she rightfully shut down the trade. Despite preventing the most valuable item from being lost, she continuously brings this up in gaming conversations. I have a theory as to why this is her saving throw against me. The situation can never be amended. Previous criticisms were actionable and fulfilled. She left the incident in a superior position. I don't know what her end goal is. Does she want my apology? My relationship with that friend ended very traumatically. And thus, any time it is brought up in bad faith, I shut down. After registering a second Steam account for multiplayer, the initial one automatically became hers. What confuses me is her abstinence from all games outside miHoYo's ecosystem. Her Steam account is largely abandoned.

Welcome to the GQ Forum! D2 was one of the most depressive experiences for me. Although, I think I owe it to the people I played with. I tried playing a few public matches this year, all solo queue and the experience was so drastic compared to my original D2 friends. I'm a weak player, and my friends hated me for that. Other events also led to them throwing me out almost ten years ago. My trauma in gaming consistently has been lagging behind other gamer friends and family. Struggling individually is normal since I'm learning. Outside gaming, I'm labelled the weakest and most behind. This following me into a pastime has not been healthy.

In my previous post, I shared my goals related to gaming. Here's what happened in a month: I completed two games ( A Physical Escape Game + A Game at the Arcade ) Spring Cleaning for the Lunar New Year More time in my workplace ( Lesser working from home) The above satisfies me because: I aim to complete five games before considering purchasing any more I fulfilled a family commitment I became more active and social Elsewhere: I completed Gaming the System Podcast #11 today. Exposing myself to a painful past (Playing Dota 2 after six years) Threw out expired G Fuel

Hi Amphibian, I got a diploma in Interior Design in 2018, so school's way past for me. It's relevant since my interests lie in character design and animation. Currently, I work in fanfiction and fan art. When I can at work, I study Microsoft Excel functions. I'd want to study KNIME afterwards. -

Sniper, I've had my share of F2P titles. Ironically, the two that affected me the worst were Dota 2 and Fortnite. I played Dota 2 heavily from 2013 - 2015, and I stopped because: Poor treatment from my IRL friends when playing together Zero confidence in personal ability Unfamiliarity with the MOBA Genre Some teenagers brought me into Fortnite after I met them through Overwatch 1. Many things made Fortnite unenjoyable: Extremely competitive community Playing against controller players Cesspool of collaborations Dota 2 trashed my confidence, while Fortnite burnt lots of my money. Regarding F2P abstinence, Disney Speedstorm caught my interest during the D23 Expo (2022). I didn't purchase it during Early Access and haven't launched it after it became F2P. -
Committing to Not Buying Games (Jan 2024)

Hello Pocha, My main problem is pre-occupation. I want to moderate my thoughts on gaming. My worst thoughts regarding gaming are anxieties. For example, today, I learned about Endless Dungeon. Doing so reminded me of Shoulders of Giants and Windblown. I did not purchase these games, but they do interest me. And I get anxious that I haven't started them. Alongside the backlog, I want to avoid starting new games because of: Family criticizing my purchases Impulse purchase guilt Every game's learning curve -
I am unable to maintain long hours of play, namely due to: Mental Fatigue Stopping after tilting Quickly achieved goals in sessions By creating so many intervals between sessions, game completion for me has been slow. Here's where my problem manifests: Because I'm bored with my current games, I buy more to excite myself into completing them. Slow game completion for me is caused by Achievement Hunting or 100% Completion. Mastering something, even slowly, gives me great satisfaction. Seeing my backlog grow year on year does not. This issue even extends to F2P titles I've never launched. I feel the FOMO. I aim to stop purchasing games or start any F2P titles.
