Hm Sleep Nutrition and exercise are what some people argue to be the three major factors that influence health. If that is so, I estimate it to be of pretty high importance, because without health, everything else topples like a house of cards....
One could also argue that it reduces your productivity if you mess with your cyrcadian rhythm. Not to speak about other potential health effects. Of course the less you do it the less effect it has. If you went to sleep only one night at 3 in the morning and the others at 22 it shouldn't have a serious effect. The same goes if you slept 1 night 4-5 hours but the rest 7-8. But if that turns into a habit, the consequences are major.
And every time we allow ourselves to participate in some activity, we increase the chance of ourselves participating in it once more. (That doesn't mean it's impossible to stop, but If you set a clear limit and go back to trying to withhold it again and again and then not cross it once you've managed to stick to it, you decrease the chance of yourself crossing it, because you already know that this is simply not something you do, and don't give it a second thought of "maybe I should?" )
But of course we do have limited willpower and capacities, so often choosing is super important, even if it comes at the cost of health. because if you don't choose you're risking not even achieving that other thing or health... Both.
I'm just trying to keep it fresh in your mind that the effect of neglecting sleep most probably equals some sort of damage to health and even more probably to productivity.
I guess you know that anyway, but sometimes we "forget", myself included.
Cheers,
Let me know what ya' think.
