Wow, that's quite admirable. How do you even succeed with that in modern society when our surroundings are filled with so much tech and people that constantly use it?

This was a year when I had to learn a lot in a short period of time. There was no job security for me. I can get to the same sweet spot if I learn enough skills and challenge myself to a higher position.

Another period I can remember is when it was the norm to go out with my friends at lunch and return at night. We stayed in each other’s homes, but mostly played games outside.

when we played the games, we discussed the local news, science, and plans to beat the other boys.

I feel "neutral" and that's ok.  In hindsight, it's better than how I felt while I was making that last post.  Though I have yet to find means that also happen to "put food on the table", so to speak, there are places and people that can make me feel welcome if I allow myself to see it as such.  Is this what you meant @Amphibian220 by "feel[ing] content"?

Yes, I have to allow it to happen.

i think from Cam’s workbook, we should at first learn to care for ourselves and follow good standards  for becoming robust. If you build a bit of that, then connections with community and family can be safely established.

If we train our muscles, we are in a position to take on bigger weights. If we take on the biggest weight without training for it, we can hurt ourselves.

I dont know your individual circumstances, so that you need to identify a tailored recovery process by being self accountable and using a workbook.

  3. This is my review of a dozen journals on GQ.

Now a serious challenge is that entertainment has been turned into a format of gambling. Today I open social media with the hope of catching that one video that will satisfy me.

It is no longer possible to draw a dividing line between gambling and practical use. It looks like internet companies are finding ways of deceiving former gamers/gamblers that they are only watching a show, whereas in fact their gambling addiction is being fed . This addiction manifests with the “lucky tap”. Opening content that will most entertain the addict today.

So staying away from video games and running through short films is a form of new self deception:

    attraction to easy gain,

lack of motivation to perform work,

    obsessive habit,

    denial of a problem.

I can put blockers on my computer, but I’d rather refrain from all internet entertainment. Watching kids play football in the back yard is a safer idea.

    90 days again.

  4. I think this state is influenced by videogames Patrick. Video games make a person feel lonely. Just after a week of saying away from social media and games, i start talking to store keepers, notice my neighbours, help community members out. I think of online entertainment as this fence that blocks me from being part of my town. If we go step by step and feel content with a friendly conversation we had during the day, we will not feel worthless.

But as soon as you introduce a cocktail of various ingredients that are all designed to work in beautiful harmony the sugar is suddenly brought to life and becomes SO much more appealing.

Put a good teacher in a school, and the pupils will want to attend it.

There has to be a realized conflict for your life to be exciting. If it is too easy, it will take away from the motivation. I think the problem is that people don't see conflicts . If they don't see them, they can’t resolve them. They get the illusion that the job is boring, or that talking with the neighbor won’t carry a benefit.

There are alcoholics who can’t understand how living without alcohol is possible. Similarly, members of this forum relapse by switching from games to films, or social media thinking it is too fun to throw away. The most down to earth, rewarding growth I have had was when I pulled the chord on all electronic entertainment.

  6. There was a forum member who after detoxing from video games, purchased a racing simulator equipment to play it as a sport that wasn’t as problematic as games he played in the past. This at first worked, but he had uncontrollable cravings to try his old games. So he got to playing them and had to detox again.

Just keep track if animating something new will pull you to old habits.

  7. The positivity is that I have improved my physical fitness. I look much better and have a good posture. I remember how you and I wished each other success in late 2023.

But i’ve got anger problems because i haven’t got the patience to study problems and find a way to solve them. I just watched sports all the time throughout the year and that got me into a worse place. It was a mixed year. One of my bros helped me out a lot, I wouldn’t get the limited success I have without his help.

I like your blog. It is so easy to get angry, but judging by your posts , you dont let your guard down.

  8. Despite doing sports, I get anxiety issues over my health and finances. I watch a lot of online sports to forget ongoing problems. i can watch up to three hours of nfl per day.

Most troubling is that anxiety doesn’t go away and I have near zero mental energy. The sport gave me a good physique, but absent mindedness coupled with occasional ruminating does not go away. The thinking gets in the way of doing my work properly. Then the worrying becomes a buildup of anger.

I have to stop watching sports and just spend time with my books.

Then make a plan to find better work and communicate to keep my mental state at a good level.

  9. New entry after it seemed that my habits completely changed.

When I get a stomachache, i leave all my responsibilities and watch nfl sports league. It is not a healthy connection because I get emotional and angry from seeing my side lose. I also watch it to see the opposing team’s players get physically harmed. I started noticing that the habit satisfies my anger and dissatisfaction with things. It would be much better if I wrestled somebody than watch athletes get knocked down.

Communication with peers worsened because of this intense following of a sport. I just want to see the next game and dont pay attention to my workmates. I also don't open up towards my peers and stay withdrawn.

I have to stop watching it and just go for jogs whenever I am feeling bored. Let me feel more discomfort, but at least I won’t be as lazy.

I know I have no other choice. I've been struggling with this for more than 10 years, and I understand that changing habits formed over such a long time cannot happen in just a few days.

I have nothing to say to my journey anymore.

You have a choice that you have consciously taken to be free of games. Knowing this, makes quitting an exciting option: you joined because you are no longer in denial.

The habits are responsible for getting certain needs met. You have to identify what they (the needs) are and find replacement habits for them. This approach will reformat the habits in a way where you will struggle some, but you will also regain control of your life and become a healthy person.

One of powerful choices that absentee gamers tell themselves they cannot afford is to ask for help. Asking for help (be it joining a health group, academic institution, work environment or a mentor) feels expensive to a gamer who has been trained by games to think he cannot afford anything.

try to understand that as a young person you are the most valued and expensive member of your community. You can create a lot of benefits for your people. With this in mind, the corrupt thinking starts to self destruct. Asking for targeted help will open up potential to have sustained improvement without replapses.

  11. Welcome to game quitters.

Always good to see self awareness in young aspiring people. Do you know that there are many who say that the video gaming or other bad habits do not affect them?

This is called denial and the best definition I could give it is refusing to observe the consequences of a harmful habit.

I have seen journals on this forum where members tried controlling the time spent on video games and I have yet to see a successful case. So all cases were negative.

Hope you have a fighting spirit to reclaim a healthy way.

  12. Scrolling is a memory clog so it is essential for you to drop as a habit.

My suggestion is to use only Game quitters forum whenever you feel bored. Just come back and read about members’ successes and failures. Because information on the forum is structured better (there are a few regular journals with not much new information posted each day, it will hopefully not cause you to spend too much time reading.

Try to read more of the successful posts about new found interests, relationships, skills, this will hopefully influence you to put the phone down and start new activities. These kind of members don't just focus on abstaining from video games but bravely ask for help, get employed in new jobs and that is why their improvement is sustained. Slowly taper down the time you read members’ posts and switch to real life family and friends.

Once you start braving will never go back to time wasting.

  13. I failed it and have to retake it. It happened because I am combining work with it and it was not a weekly habit.

I am planning to revise on a more frequent basis and without using my telephone. A small pc along with a notebook is going to be enough.

  14. Welcome Octafolia,

the first major misconception of a gamer is that it is too expensive to seek help. You must break this misconception by braving it to ask a close person whom you trust for help. You may have an underlying problem that needs to be targeted. You are a 23 year old male which is the most expensive asset for your community. Many people of the right sort will be willing to help because you can bring s lot of good for your community.

If you can install blocking program on your phone and join a sports league that suits you, that would be the quickest way. video game friends have not much to share with you, and connections in sport and good work are much greater and better.

  15. Cheapest entertainment today: surfing a movie database

Most expensive entertainment: Going to a gym for a workout, putting my clothes in good order, reading a book.

Education: Getting ready for my upcoming exam.

  16. For me it is football and table tennis. I used to be a lot more competitive at football and played in amateur leagues some years back, but my form isn't as good now. I also regularly do push ups off the wall as a way of developing stamina.

I practiced playing tennis as a kid and enjoyed it, but I never progressed to a point where I could play against an opponent.

Never heard of Jugger club. Will have to find out what it is.

  17. welcome back!

Are there sports that you find addictive Nils? i have a few sports like that and the competitive and progression element are so attractive that I never stop . I can get injured, but it is part of living it for real. So what kind of sports are you playing?

Something I figured out is that I need to play enough and win enough at sports, to communicate enough with family and friends, for me to be content at my job.

If I am not eating well, or resting well, I eventually get demoralized and start thinking of games, because games are quick relief from fatigue. So staying strong guarantees I will not think of games.

  18. Wishing you well. For me even films are suspect. One of my christian friends said he does not watch films because they show a lot of indecency. I agree with this, and read books instead. Books are a lot more fun than films because they can tell a story in a way that films cant.

At first, living a healthy life appears unattractive, but just hold on and it gives meaning.

We are not here for entertainment, but to achieve something of substance and make a great difference for our community.

  19. As I have said before I have to train a new apprentice , but he has got serious anxiety issues. When we were doing a task together and he thought there was a mistake, he talked about it like a disaster of some sort. This keeps recurring and the pressure starts to take hold. I dont know how to convince the employee that the work we are doing is of a good standard. He keeps watching his back and is super vigilant but just turns the work into an ordeal.

  20. Welcome to game quitters.

the trap as you described it is a game or film perceived as something common. There is a bigger excuse to do something wrong, if a false impression is created that there is a community around the harmful activity. This is how people play online video games for years without detecting that they are performing the same operations without any tangible meaning.

Another thing is how jobs previously filled by your community members, have been transferred to automatic computer systems and back office functions. So the human element is greatly reduced. This causes that feeling of loneliness and loss of sense of belonging to a community.

Now online communication and easy on demand entertainment makes people less present to notice their family, neighbours and friends. There is a great transition to fake substitutes.

the answer is greater control over one’s needs and focusing on building relationships with family and community.
