  1. Such an impressively detailed plan! I find that knowing your ultimate goals and setting everyday measurable actions helps a lot. I'm looking forward to reading your book
  2. About writing out your goals. I think it helps to be as much specific as you can. The keywords here are actionable and measurable. For example "I want to become a better person" won't lead you anywhere. What is it that will make you a better person? "I want to be more compassionate" is a bit better. How can you become more compassionate? "I want to volunteer". Keep refining! "I want to volunteer twice a month with children in a hospital". Good! Now that you know what you can plan how. Steps: 1) List hospitals and nonprofits (goal: knowing your options); 2) Call selected items in step 1 (goal: making an appointment); 3) Meet selected items in step 2 (goals: picking one),.. About pretentious "spiritual people". Yes, that happens. Quite a lot actually But don't worry that: it's the person, not the action. We all have our flaws. Wish them luck to overcome their insecurities and enjoy the benefits of whatever healthy activity they care to pursue.
  3. Hey Cor, nice reading your journal. Happy you don't have cravings

Day 15. Woke up again at 6.45 since I had work to do the evening before. A couple of dreams I could recall fairly well, so I wrote them down as usual. I progressed with my language studies too. The early bird catches the worm It's been a great day at work! I also had some time to play with my kids, and now I'll get to spend some time with my wife. All is well. Gratitude journal: I love working with my colleagues. They are great professionals and fun people. My wife is a great cook. She's so good that I want to marry her.Home delivery. Even the best cooks deserve a break
  6. ?Maybe you like... thinking with your own head? Check out the philosophers Socrates and Hegel, you'll find much to like!
  7. I always enjoy reading your posts. Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Don't worry about your gamer friends. In my experience you'll stay friends with those with which you have a real connection. The others will just replace you. You won't miss them, they won't miss you. ?This feels good, doesn't it? You wrote you had a good night's sleep. I did some research on sleep for a health condition of mine. Turns out that sleep deprivation makes your brain lock in bad memories and emotions and forget positive ones. When I started getting some solid sleep I started to experience what you are experiencing now. It even expanded to flashbacks of my early childhood. And my mood improved permanently because of this. That's one of the reasons why I care so much about sleeping enough and sleeping well.

Day 14. Slept in a bit: woke up at 6.45 in a quiet home. Another fragmented night meant no dreams to recall. No need to journal, so I took the chance to meditate, lift weights, make a super-tasty breakfast, and read. Today I really, really wanted to play TF2. Just a little bit. One or two matches. An hour or two. I kept thinking I need a break, that's a break, what difference does it make if I play. It lasted for maybe a couple of hours. It was kind of funny to observe my frustration During the day I made arrangements with a friend who is coming from Canada in a couple of weeks (no, not Cam). We'll have dinner and then I'll show him this place called Excalibur. Of course we'll end up talking about metal, martial arts, and all those other things we love. Anticipation feels good! I'm also hitting it on with Duolingo. When I first checked it out it didn't have Dutch. Now it does. Turns out it's a great program, very effective! Time now for one of my great pleasures: listening to music under the blankets. There are things better done with your eyes closed. Gratitude journal: Eating every meal with with my family, every day.International travel creating friendships and bridging cultures.Earbuds. Comfortable to wear, and I can rock away all I like without annoying anyone.

    Starting now

Hi Thomas! Welcome! Nice plan for day 1 I too liked to watch gaming stuff, and when I decided to quit gaming I dropped the whole "gaming world". Not even my favorite video game music. If you want you can try something else to watch or to do entirely. When I feel the urge to read gaming news, for example, I call or text somebody. What do you think?
  10. Hi Cor! Welcome to the club ?That is a brave thing to do! I'm curious to know how it plays out (if you don't mind sharing, of course). Maybe you'll learn some tricks we could all use.
  11. ?Yeah boys and girls, I officially diagnose us with gaming burnout. Better early than late I guess.
  12. Haha good luck now Brace for the next stage: climbing babies
  13. Nice! Here is my opinion: if you have done one thing you wouldn't have done because of gaming, you have been productive. Even just five minutes of introspection count. Baby steps You use way more energy to start than to keep momentum. Earlier you wrote you want to learn HTML basics. Have you tried Codecademy? It's free and I found it quite useful.

Day 13. Woke up at 4.30. Quite irritated to be honest. If there is one thing I need above all is sleep. Children apparently don't agree. So I went into the woods and meditated by the lake. Took my time making breakfast, reading, pledging for GamdQuitters and replying to a couple of posts. I started with Duolingo and found it to be excellent. Thanks again Elegwa I watched a couple more episodes of the Dutch cartoon with my elder son. He likes it very much. Good! New father-and-son activity for the winter. Yes, we skipped autumn. The kids fell asleep at a decent time so I finally got to spend an evening with my wife. It's incredible how little time we have for ourselves as a couple. Gratitude journal: Eggs. Delicious, healthy, filled with protein. And they look like me.My family. We are growing together nicely, and having fun while at it.Shell scripts. Write once, use forever.

?Of course! Here's my opinion on Superhuman Social Skills. ?Thank you! Your support means a lot to me.
  17. ?Of course, post here if you like the company
  18. As usual once the initial setup is done everything runs smooth. I took some time to set up my scanner and I'll get to fix Spotify's launcher eventually. All local programs I need are in place. I skipped proprietary graphics drivers for obvious reasons ?I'm learning Dutch. I checked out both sites a while ago and they didn't offer what I was looking for. Now they do. Thanks for bringing them up!
  19. Hi Elegwa. Welcome! Thank you for sharing your story with us. Wow, 127 days. How did you replace gaming?
  20. Oh, Hearthstone. You are the best game I've ever played. If it weren't for you I might still be a gamer. You made me feel smart and resourceful like a ballsy chess player. Reaching 12 wins in arena made me jump from excitement. When I kicked ass in ranked play with my own decks, without ever spending real money, I knew I was good. Even grinding for gold has never been a chore. More than everything, you kept my mind occupied when I was dumbstruck with grief. Sleepless night after sleepless night, until my body was numb too. Praise to your inventors, and eternal glory to Jason Hayes, who I put on my personal podium of video game music composers together with Michael Land and Koji Kondo. Thank you for what you have done for me. It's time to let you go. Well played.

Day 12. Woke up at 5.45 to have extra time for myself. 15 minutes of meditation, then a friend came to pick up his bike. Saying hello to a friend in the early morning is a nice way to start the day. I reached out to a friend who is feeling a bit down. We made an appointment for Friday. It will be nice to see her after a long time and I hope I can cheer her up a bit. Otherwise I'll make her pay for my drinks I found that one of my favorite cartoons of when I little, Alfred J. Kwak, is a Dutch-Japanese cooperation coming out of a Dutch theater show. That's awesome! Today I watched the first episode with my children. We all enjoyed it and will continue the story tomorrow. It's a fun way to keep learning the language. After that I spent some time with my elder son talking about good and evil, drawing from the episode we just saw. It's interesting to see how he is growing up to have his own opinions and beliefs. And it's a pleasure to spend time with him. There were a couple of times today when I had cravings while dealing with some grunt work. Nothing unbearable. Gratitude journal: Digital sharing services like YouTube saving old, unmarketable stuff from oblivion.Extra mouse buttons. They are incredible for productivity.Expat friends. We go through the same hurdles and can support each other.
