After the conversation with my brother get right back to German instead of reading info about the Army for him. I don't think this is very useful, since it is up to him to research what he wants. If he doesn't take the initiative on his own, I'm not sure any of my knowledge will be helpful. Or maybe it will, but unlikely, and I'd better do what surely will do benefit to me. which is study :)
