Rambling Thoughts: Today is the day for beginning to find alternative communities other than gaming communities. When all your friends are gamers, and all they talk about are games, it's nearly impossible to not fall back into gaming.
Thankfulness: I'm thankful for my extended family being there for me.
The Feels: It's really depressing to realize how much of life I have missed out on and hard to not feel like a loser for dedicating a significant portion of my life to video games.
Progress Bar: I'm starting over with mindfulness meditation today. Trying to be consistent with it. I do a couple days straight, then let it slide. I'm not sure if it's helping or not yet after a month of doing it off and on. Maybe consistency is the key to progress here, as in all things.
I nuked my Steam accounts with random generated passwords and email addresses and removed two-factor authentication from them.

RedRockets added a topic in Start Here + IntroductionsStarting Over With A Fresh (Real) LifeHello all! Call me Red; I'm a gaming addict from the state of Oregon in the US.
This year I'll be 34 years old, so that means I've spent nearly 30 years playing video games. 3 decades. For the past 7 years I've been using gaming unhealthily to escape from my difficulties in life, and eventually that meant I missed out on life itself, apart from the necessities of adulthood. It's been difficult for me to arrive at this point as I also self-medicated depression and anxiety with gaming accomplishments and activities, so cutting it out has been like cutting out my purpose for life.
Today, I am proud to say I've been over 30 days without playing a single game, but it's a long road yet as I'm just now living my life with both eyes wide open and not jacked into a pixelated fantasy.
Pick up any of the instruments I used to play in college and start playing.Expand my developer toolset and knowledge. Go back to school and further my education. Get physically fit.
