Hi community,

Right now I'm doing 90 days detox and it almost a week. I had a thought that is it ok playing card game like pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cardfight Vandguard through online? If I play that, does it considered playing a game? Since it is a "Card" games, is it safe for me to play that kind of a game?

This is the ultimate proof that you are a gamer. Without evaluating it. A non-gamer is not thinking about this, because he has "better" things to do than play games. But yeah, I just wrote about something like this in another thread. For me, those programs are games. They have mechanisms to get you addicted and are something different that just card games, you play in real life. A game itself is nothing good or bad, it is just the question, what it does with you!

So ask yourself: What are those games doing with you? Do you want to be a gamer or a non gamer? I think those are important questions to consider.

You're right, my target being here is to quit from gaming and have a better life, I shouldn't think about to play any type of game through PC or Mobile phone. I should think more on changing my lifestyle to be a better person. To have a healthy life. Thanks for bringing me to think back to the right path.

To be on the safe side it is better to avoid card games too. They share similar mechanics that other even more addictive games have and can cause as much damage.

It is better to find completely different activities to keep yourself entertained.

Thank you for the response. Yeah, to be safe I just avoid any type of games and I shouldn't think "games is the only entertainment things to do", there's many others activity to be done that can entertained me beside games. For now, I'm doing my own business and I did start to learning a new language and I do some meditation to make me ease if I'm stress up.

I think that online games in any form should be a no-go for some time until you're really fully detoxed at least. I can't speak for you but for me the whole appeal of gaming is isolation. Even if I'm playing online, I get to be alone in a dark room with all of my insecurities and fears hanging over me. You aren't really playing a game with other people even though other people are your opponents. Find a card shop near you and play there. From my experience there's usually always a group of people who hangs out at them playing. My old roommate when I lived in Arizona made a lot of friends playing Yu-Gi-Oh (or however you write it lol) at a store by us.

Alternatively you can just find something else to do. That's probably the best choice because it will allow your brain time to recover from the constant stimulus of competition and gaming.

I am addicted to card games, I would say they are not "safe". I would strongly recommend you stay away from them as well.

Wow, it has an impact to hear this warning from someone addicted to card games. I am thinking card games are ok because they dont stimulate as much and people only play the cards. At the same time I am worried that playing it will open the door to gaming and possibly pave the way to more stimulating games. Not sure if I can steer back even if I am 150+ days games free. Would love you thoughts on this subject.

G'day mate! I'm glad to see a lot of great discussion here already, but I agree with @Alexanderle, if you're trying to justify to yourself that it's "not as bad" then it's the same symptoms as cravings and choosing to play games over your responsibilities or actual life.

Use the opportunity of the detox period to really address the underlying issues of *why* you're addicted to gaming. For the majority of us, it is escapism. Why do you feel like you want to escape? What are you escaping from? When you get these feelings or start to feel your brain trying to justify why you should play something, sit down and write out what you're feeling and what your situation is. After a while you will recognise a pattern which will help you address the cause of the problems rather than addressing the symptoms (gaming). The end result is the changes you will make have a higher probability of being permanent.

It's fascinating for me to play card games online. Especially when you are bored at work, it's the best way to relax and forget about some problems. I don't know how about you, but I love to play it either before sleep. I am a big solitaire player. So I use this platform with a lot of card games. Anyway, we have to understand that this is one of the first PC games. I remember that this was the only game installed on it. It took a while to learn how to play it. I remained astonished when I won the first game.

I struggled with this question too but what I have found works for me is if I play the card game in real life then the virtual version is ok(I play MTG but not hearthstone). It's more about how your chemistry reacts I think. Does it feel like a video game when you play?
