I had a thought that is it ok playing card game like pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cardfight Vandguard through online? If I play that, does it considered playing a game? A non-gamer is not thinking about this, because he has "better" things to do than play games. But yeah, I just wrote about something like this in another thread. For me, those programs are games. They have mechanisms to get you addicted and are something different that just card games, you play in real life. A game itself is nothing good or bad, it is just the question, what it does with you! So ask yourself: What are those games doing with you? Do you want to be a gamer or a non gamer? I should think more on changing my lifestyle to be a better person. To have a healthy life. Yeah, to be safe I just avoid any type of games and I shouldn't think "games is the only entertainment things to do", there's many others activity to be done that can entertained me beside games. I can't speak for you but for me the whole appeal of gaming is isolation. Even if I'm playing online, I get to be alone in a dark room with all of my insecurities and fears hanging over me. You aren't really playing a game with other people even though other people are your opponents. Find a card shop near you and play there. From my experience there's usually always a group of people who hangs out at them playing. My old roommate when I lived in Arizona made a lot of friends playing Yu-Gi-Oh (or however you write it lol) at a store by us. Alternatively you can just find something else to do. I am thinking card games are ok because they dont stimulate as much and people only play the cards. At the same time I am worried that playing it will open the door to gaming and possibly pave the way to more stimulating games. Not sure if I can steer back even if I am 150+ days games free. I'm glad to see a lot of great discussion here already, but I agree with @Alexanderle, if you're trying to justify to yourself that it's "not as bad" then it's the same symptoms as cravings and choosing to play games over your responsibilities or actual life. Use the opportunity of the detox period to really address the underlying issues of *why* you're addicted to gaming. For the majority of us, it is escapism. Why do you feel like you want to escape? What are you escaping from? When you get these feelings or start to feel your brain trying to justify why you should play something, sit down and write out what you're feeling and what your situation is. After a while you will recognise a pattern which will help you address the cause of the problems rather than addressing the symptoms (gaming). Especially when you are bored at work, it's the best way to relax and forget about some problems. I don't know how about you, but I love to play it either before sleep. I am a big solitaire player. So I use this platform with a lot of card games. Anyway, we have to understand that this is one of the first PC games. I remember that this was the only game installed on it. jakey 76 Posted February 13 Share Posted February 13 I struggled with this question too but what I have found works for me is if I play the card game in real life then the virtual version is ok(I play MTG but not hearthstone).
