NEW VIDEO: The EASIEST Way to Stop Gaming

I know what it is. Lying in a bed late night, scrolling down something useless, watching a video, then, out of blue a sudden urge strikes me like a lightning, I feverishly browse hot fat latino mommino and boom. I have a wank.

But why are people determined about nofap? I heard it`s healthy in moderation and so on (I just do it regardless) but can participants of this challenge enlighten me of the downside of giving it a good ol rub?

Take this for what you will--I am not a masturbation scientist (that sounds like a horrible job) nor do I claim to be up to date on said research.

I am an engineer though, so the best advice I can give to you is...experiment. Try it, see what happens. What are the benefits? What are the negatives? Everyone is wired a little bit differently, so your experience can be different from everyone else's who posts here.

For me, when I'm on No Fap, I feel way more energy. I feel more focused. I feel more attracted to women and wanting to engage with them. I lift heavier in the gym.

When I'm...uh...not on No Fap, I feel completely lethargic, craving sweets and unhealthy food, craving the internet, craving sleep, and being an anti-social loser on the day of, and subsequent days feeling less and less so the further in between relapses. I hate feeling like this so I make it a point to do the best I can in avoiding masturbation.

I second @DaBest in that you should experiment. Set goals. Fail/succeed. Rinse. Repeat.

One interesting thing is that orgasm/pleasurable feelings are NOT the same as ejaculation, it however requires self-control to differentiate. It is useful to know for sex as well, so you know how to get the best bang for your buck (pun totally intended). Check out this blog for more information.

Personally, I think going for some indefinite No-Fap is unrealistic for a healthy male, unless you are:

1) extremely determined/disciplined - (to live in celibacy? until having sex?) I guess shame could fit in here too as inverse determination. Not meeting enough attractive women with your lifestyle could also be a strange case of determination.

2) affected by special conditions - I have a friend who is on anti-depressants whose libido is zero.

I think having a schedule in this case is a good thing. I try to ejaculate weekly. The last time I ejaculated twice in three days, I was HAMMERED the next day. I also experienced cold sweat and an increase in zits the day after ejaculation. Moderation is the key.

First of all, the big idea overall is to get rid of pornography. By now, there are probably hundreds of studies showing the devestating effects of pornography. This stuff can even change your brain! So from that perspective, if understand the movement. However, up to this point, I have not found a single study indicating the positve effects, some no fap users claim to have experienced.  Stuff like better skin, more energy, heavier lifting. Well there are studies indicating that there is a correlation between depression and masturbation. But it is probably the most common mistake to confuse correlation with causation. You don't get depressed, because you are motivated. It is more like, because you are depressed, you try to find ways to get some relive, some pleasure, to feel better. Similar to gaming or drinking or smoking. Excess masturbation does not seem to be a healthy action. However,  in my opinion, a lot of it, if not 90 percent of it is a gigantic placebo. And as long, as solid studies  were not conducted (Ted-talks and self published books are not peer reviewed studies), I belive in the placebo theory.

A totally different question is, whether it is bad that it might be a placebo? What happens? You have more time, maybe you feel to have more energy and what not if you don't masturbate. This effect is even more extreme for the idea of "no-porn", because you can waste a lot of time, looking for the "right" video. I know that quite well. Also a big problem is the shame afterwards that you feel. It can make you feel quite bad. Not as much with masturbation per se, but more for porn.

So what happens, when you resist that? Or more generally speaking, when you overcome a habit that you feel like you had no control over? That actual controlled you? If you all the sudden become the master of that? No shit sherlock - that this gives you energy! Even more: It gives you self confidence. The more powerful you become that way, the more chances you have to use this new confidence for other areas of your life. I used to do the same thing with my diet. What might be no fap for other people, is "no-sugar" for me. I like the idea to stay strong and I feel good about myself. Other people eat that crap all day, but I can easily resist. And I mean zero. This gives me so much more energy, I feel less tired and whatever. Over the course of one year, this is what I started with. And so much has changed because of this one change. Like a domino chain reaction. So if something like that gets you going. Go for it!

One last thing about movements: The no fap movement up to this point claims to have these benefits (according to a very short research of mine):

More energy, self confidence, better memory, concentration, better hair, better skin, better stamina, better eye sight, better sleep, "no" depression, no social anxiety, less dark circles, less sweating, more lifting power, a lot of sex related stuff...

Now let me write down a couple of other movements, who claim to experience similar effects: no-sugar eaters (guilty), early risers, vegetarians, vegans, low card people, low fat people, basically any type of diet movement.

What I want to say is this: There is nothing wrong, if it gives you a boost and makes you feel better. Doesn't mean that all the claimed effects are real. More than hundred years ago, phrenology was a big deal, claiming that skull size or bumps in the brain can reveal something about your character. It turned into a huge business and people would try to use it for their daily situations and problems. No-fap might be very well a phrenology of our time. But so might be no-sugar eating, vegetarianism or positive psychology. We won't know until serious studies have been conducted. Those no-fap studies are flawed.

For me personally, I'd often masturbate for much the same reason I would game; to avoid confronting some bad feelings, be it stress, anxiety or unhappiness. I am trying to cut porn out but will still masturbate when the urge arises. I think it might actually be unhealthy not to release every now and then.

I think there's even an ethical perspective to not watching porn, because then it's possible to refocus your sexuality into the real world. Once it's back in the real world, you'll fantasize about real women you meet. Once you do that, then you have a clear bearing for what women you want to approach and perhaps date. And once you are in a relationship, your sexuality gets hopefully integrated into something greater.

Nofap fluctuates between purely allegorical pseudoscience to a genuinely supportive community for porn addicts. İt's hard to take seriously because of the former. I wish the porn addicts of the world would divorce themselves from the term, it's really hurting them.

@ceponatia Thats what I am saying: If this stuff is helping porn addicts to get rid of a really annoying behavior - awesome, I am totally fine with that. The rest is just like you said a pseudoscience.

Yeah. When I first heard about NoFap several years ago, it was all about the pseudoscience aspect and it made me cringe so hard. It wasn't until just a few weeks ago that someone on Reddit showed me a sub where it was just used as a way to stop porn addiction. That said, someone simply forcing themselves to stop without any sort of therapy or lifestyle change probably isn't going to work. I didn't understand porn addiction either but my therapist explained it to me. I watch porn maybe once every couple of months but it doesn't do much for me... it often makes me depressed, actually, because I think "here is this beautiful woman just being absolutely ruined physically and mentally and I'm here all alone" lol. But when you're perpetually single, even a smile from a cute girl can fling you into depression.

I also think that I'm just at the age where my hormones are dying off, lol. I mentioned in a different post here that I just don't feel attracted to women the same way I used to. It's been years since I had that "so in love with her" feeling, and more often than not even masturbating just feels like it's too much work to get into. Lol

I do understand it quite well, as I suffered from it and quite recently, I relapsed on it. And this can really kill of your libido. But totally not doing anything anymore did not work for me. It was more like focusing on other more meaningful things in my life. And I am sure, this will solve itself again. I feel that with 27 years, I am still in my "prime" and feel all these feelings quite strong.

And you are right regarding the ethical perspective of the women's side. If we analyze it from that perspective, there is really disgusting stuff going on in the pornography business. Like serious stuff and I feel, if I would ever have to participate in some of the aweful "practices", I would never recover from it. 😄

Yeah I read a couple of feminist books when I was younger and one of them was defending porn as a way for women to take charge of their sexuality and blah blah, and the other was quite against it. I think to some degree it could be true but you never see a retired porn star who doesn't look used up, tired, and slightly insane. Plus, the industry is run by a certain type of man who is not really in the biz for women's welfare, so that whole side of the argument is BS in my opinion.

Feminism is once again another of those movements, where the original idea was good (more chances etc. for women), but slowly turned into this crazy movement, where feminists fight almost everything. So insane. And in what universe does a woman take of charge of her sexuality by being fucked in the ..., pissed on or being gagged? 😕 That is definitely BS.

Well, feminism itself isn't bad. There are just so many versions of feminism and the only ones that ever get attention are the crazy ones. It's like conservatism in America... conservatives aren't all racist homophobes who hate poor people, but they're the only ones who ever get on the news. Lol
