NEW PODCAST: Instant Gratification is the cause of so many problems in your life...

Question of the week: What are three things on your bucket list?

Recommended Posts

Hey again, only me!

We're back for another question of the week to find out more about the community, and get to know each other a little bit better.

The topic this week is all about bucket lists:

noun
1. a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime.

It could be related to money, travel, relationships, food, adventure, building, writing... literally anything!

So, just list the three things you want to do before you die down below. Also, feel free to list any of the steps you're taking to achieve these goals!

I guess I'll go first:

  1. Design and build my own house. Whenever I imagine my perfect house I pretty much go straight to the house in Twilight (I know, don't judge). A large, secluded house covered in glass and wood near a lake or within a forest. I'd love to be able to wake up and split my own logs for firewood, fish in the lake, and work on nature's doorstep. What am I doing to achieve this? Trying to earn a butt-load of money 🤣
  2. Go to space. Is this a bit ambitious? Maybe. But, given the way technology is going and provided I have enough money in the future, I imagine it'll be pretty likely that members of the public will be able to (safely) go to space. And no, I don't just mean Virgin Galactic.
  3. Go Scuba Diving in the Galapagos. Later this year I plan on getting my advanced open water diving qualification. From there I'd love to take it further with specialisations such as underwater photography, deeper dicing, and other advanced courses. I've always loved the ocean. Combined with my passion for exploration it's the perfect way for me to fulfil a great desire of mine. Why the Galapagos? I mean, c'mon. It's the Galapagos 😄

This list was actually a lot harder to come up with than I first thought it would be. I was initially trying to focus on the 3 best things on my bucket list, as opposed to just 3 things on it that I wanted to complete. Once I switched my way of thinking it became a lot easier to write!

I look forward to hearing what everyone else has on their lists! 😄

Hey everyone,
Those weekly questions were a great idea, keep em coming! So, heres my list:

  1. Design and DIY-convert my own campervan and live as a digital nomad for at least a year. While doing so travel through Europe. I think it'd be sooo romantic, sleeping in a cozy van and travelling around. It must be so freeing. Of course there are downsides to living in a van but I sometimes really HATE being stuck in one fixed place.
  2. Build a relationship with a person that I can share my life with. Be it a girlfriend, best friend or travel companion - doesn't matter.  Already beaten my social anxiety, now there's only extreme shyness and an inability to open up to people that are in my way. Couldn't be that hard, could it?
  3. This one actually builds on the second and first one. Camp at the feet of a beautiful waterfall together, sit at a campfire, play some music and just enjoy the moment.

@James Good omg, yeah, even though I don't like Twilight, that house looks soooo damn cozy. Waaaay more attractive than the shiney vampires :/

That sounds amazing! I spoke to a friend recently about 'nomadding' it up and living in a van in the UK. It'll likely be possible for us in the next year or so, but I can't help but think I'd get sick of it after a while. Perhaps going around Europe instead would be a better option!

I was close to putting something similar to number 2 on my list. I'm really looking forward to having a family in the future, and it's a great thing to have on your bucket list!

Now that third one just sounds perfect 😌

Yeah, you can pretty much just do a Google search for "contemporary lake house" or "luxury modern villa", mash them together and you get my dream house. Dread to think what it would cost, but that's for future James to worry about 🤣

Hey,

1. this one is similar to yours @James Good also building a house but with a lot of woods around it

2. founding a family but for this to happen I need to find the right partner first

3. traveling more I went on a big one every 3 to 4 years but I am in europe, there are so many short travel goals nearby and I have not tried a lot of them till now

4. getting finally my degrees and working my ass of for them!

Only THREE things? Off, that's hard. I have two buckets lists: one that I'm actively working towards achieving, and one that I would love to happen, but right now I'm not planning to pursue the goals.

I'm just going to share three from the "fantasy bucket list":

  • Witness a tornado with my own eyes (at least medium-sized one)
  • Go to space (same as James, yeah)
  • Star in a musical

In terms of travel, I definitely understand. I live in Europe as well (although I'm not sure how much longer for), and I've barely been to any of the places I want to go. Even though it's just a short flight away. I think when we spend so much time in an area we stop seeing the beauty that exists there. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Great list, though. And good luck with your degrees! Hard work will always pay off 😄

Yeah, I specifically chose 3 to be difficult! I was in the same boat as you in that I almost had 2 bucket lists, it's not easy choosing out of everything you want to do.

I can't imagine you get many tornadoes in the Netherlands, but you never know. Maybe all those windmills will cause problems one day 🤣

Starring in a musical would be amazing! Do you have a favourite musical you'd like to be a part of?

I'm kinda feelin tired rn, but I know if I don't post I'll likely forget

1. Become a teacher/get into public speaking: I have some ideas on how to do the second half, but the first half is just going to take time 😞 Im bad at patience rn

2. Write a good book

3. Fall in love (with God, with my future spouse should I get married, with my family and friends)

Jesus Christ Superstar is my favorite musical of all time, and I think I would be a badass Judas! The song "Heaven on their Minds" is my favorite to sing, so fun! Unfortunately, being in IT(for now), I couldn't be further away from the world of theater, I have pretty much 0 network connections hah. I wish I could go back in time to the last year of highschool to choose a different direction in life, hehe

Oh snap, same! I used to listen to it all the time when I was younger and it's still my favourite musical today. I still try and attempt the high note in Gethsemane every time I hear it haha!

Have you thought about joining a local theatre or amateur dramatics group?

If my voice is warmed up but not over-worked, I can actually hit that one!

It did cross my mind. 2-3 years ago I even e-mailed the singer who played Judas in my home town in our native language, to teach me, and he accepted. We had 1 or 2 lessons but he wasn't that keen on teaching afterall, and I wasn't managing studying and doing music at the same time well, due to gaming. Fuck gaming, seriously 😄 But I mean who knows, in case I become massively successful in the next 5 years, like I'm planning to(!!), then I might just go for it and do art full-time. I just turned 25 today, so eh, still got a lot of time for adventures.

Do you also have this thing where you want to do 5-10 things but can only afford to do 2-3 given the lack of time? We need the time-travel necklace from Harry Potter or something t.t

1 - Go to heaven

2 - Help others to get there too

3 - Do nothing aside God's will

On a more selfish level :

1 - write books

2 - practice Dark Ages fencing (too bad there is no club next to my house)

3 - Learn how to survive with as least as possible

1. Learn to let things go and treat myself better.

2. Live life with intention and not hold myself back from things I want to do whether they're big goals or something small like getting an ice cream.

3. Expand upon love: Love myself; a loving romantic relationship; loving life; loving friends; loving projects; loving pets; etc.

Unfortunately, like everything worth doing, it takes a lot of time and patience. I'm currently starting my journey into public speaking, so I definitely understand where you're coming from.

What kind of book would you write?

I love that mindset, "like I'm planning to!!". I'm in exactly the same position. But yeah, 25 is still super young. So adventure away!

My issue is that I don't have the energy to do other things after I've completed everything I need to do 🤣 I do intense creative work the first 5 hours of the day, and after that, I'm mentally drained. Something I'm working on! However, I definitely wouldn't say no to a time turner, haha!

Even your selfish goals aren't very selfish, in my eyes anyway. Especially writing books. It's great to see a load of your goals aligning with the same purpose.

I love this list! Not very traditional, but they're great ideals to live your life by. How are you working towards achieving them in your day-to-day life?

P.S. I'd really appreciate if people could vote and give their input on the new Creative Corner idea I'm working on here . A lot of the things align with your goals, and it'd be great to turn this into more than just a forum for people who have quit gaming. Cheers!

@James Good Not sure bookwise haha, either some sort of fiction (likely fantasy based) or something more psychological/Christian. As to public speaking and the creative corner ideas, my one idea was to try streaming again, (after I have a keyboard; as in piano) and to chat with my friends/viewers (friends make a forgiving public audience) as well as giving me time to practice piano again and maybe make a little money. Fully aware of the risks of sites like Twitch, I'd love to show a positive face and draw attention to the addiction and pain gaming can add to peoples lives in such a gaming centric community

Quick followup since I've had some delusional sleepless inspiration. Maybe if a wrote about the links between insomnia, gaming, depression, and perfectionism; basing it off of my own experience, and recounting it so it can read like a light fiction novel whilst still addressing deep enough points to hit home.

No idea if I have the talent to do it, but I won't know if I don't try! Maybe I'll try and start after I finish this class and get a non-night shift job.

It's easy to forget that there's a whole creative side of Twitch aside from gaming, I think it's worth a shot if you can manage it! Streaming on Twitch can be super fun if you have a small audience. As long as it doesn't get you back into gaming then I say go for it!

Great idea! It's worth trying, at least. I'd be interested to see what you're able to make of it. Best of luck!

I habent thought in this for a while. Somehow I accomplished all I wanted when I was a kid, and lately I was just learning to actually enjoy it.

1. I always wanted to visit Japan, but I want to expand it to the whole far east. Take 2 months and really travel the shit out of east Asia and maybe Mongolia, but I doubt my girlfriend will approve of this 😄

2. I don't see a logical reason to have kids, but still, it would be awesome to be a father. Somehow I know I would be a great dad, because I would focus on making my kids the best they can be. This might be a problem, because my girlfriend doesn't want kids, she thinks she would be a horrible mom because she has no patience, and has a temper.

3. I would like to have a male best friend or a group of good friends, like I used to have when I was a kid. Someone close with whom to share a common existence. I lost that connection with men, somehow, everyone is into their own shit, and when it comes to doing anything, no one is available.

I am not a very ambitious man,  the only thing I always wanted in my life was "peace and quiet" and a place where I could see some trees, and I got it. That's what a troubled childhood made to me.

1: I want to gain the best possible amount of body control that I can, as I have always felt really heavy and immobile. I always have been fascinated by calisthenics, parkour and rockclimbing but never had the guts or will to begin. I have now begun fitness and rockclimbing on the side, and hope to evolve it further.

2: I wish to travel to some place in the world where I can expirience a view with only to contrasts like blue sky and flat sand land and no noise other than the wind. Not interested in the simple kontrast of an oceanic view though 🙂 but it is to experience a place on earth with the least input as possible other than a sensory deprevation tank or a cave 😂

3: I want to get I minimalistic designed 2 floor house with large windows on the top floor with a nice view over country beach or Forrest alike. Like a small square on top of a bigger square house 😂 and for it to have independents energy (alternative renewable energy) as much as possible. This one is my most utopian bucket list point of the 3 🙂
