8.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 0/30)

Sadly I don't get rolling. My wife wasn't at home yesterday and it was really hard not to fall in old Patterns. I was lazy for around 2 hours doing basically nothing until I manged to do the workout and cleaning. Again I couldn't add a streak day because I didn't shave or prepared my breakfast. Now I'll have to buy one. It seems not so important in some way. Because if you see it objectively it is not dramatic to be a Little lazy right now. There are no urgent deadlines and all in all everything is working out fine. But I feel a sense of urgency. I need to do stuff now before shit happens as it always does. Today will be a busy day and I'll be home around late. So I'll basically have to do all my habits as soon as I am home, without too much time to take breaks or it will take away sleep time from me.

Daily Habits:

In the morning:  Journal, 20min Meditation, 20min of reading

In the afternoon/evening: at least 10min exercise, Shaving, making breakfast for next day, 30min of cleaning/tidying stuff up

I feel grateful for...

1) Meeting a friend randomly at University 2) him doing fine lately 3) No urgent problems to adress 4) having a nice book to read 5) beeing healthy

It's all about the standards you want to set for your life. Being a little lazy is fine, of course, nothing is good nor bad, but when you settle for less than you desire in one area, you settle for less than you desire in all areas. Living an extraordinary life begins by staying true to the standards you set for yourself - not because you have to or because anybody else is telling you to, but because you want to.

I agree with you. i would even go farther. I belive that being true to your own standards is a way to live a good live.This is only true if you dientify the right standards. Your life doesn't have to be extraordinary this way (in some ways every live is extraordinary) to be a good live. To reach this point you Need to work on improving your own standards (and with them at your priorities), and on yourself to become the person who stands true to them. Ofcourse this will alway be an iterative process but a very rewarding one.

9.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 1/30)

Day one done. like last thursday I managed to do all my stuff in the limited time frame I had, after coming home late late in the evening. It is easier to muster the willpower if you have not the choice to do it later. This shows me that my problem is of mental nature. Especially if I am alone at home I tend to do the things I did last year, as my wife was away at work. Meaning:  sitting around, doing porn, gaming, watching tv. Beeing a lazy fuck basically. In some ways I broke the habit loop with quitting the most damaging Habits, but I seek replacments to follow the same pattern. Next time I am alone at home I will use the time to be extra productive. The same goes for work. Now that I have some breathing time, I can do stuff to make tomorrow easier. I could start with the theoratical foundations of my thesis for example. That way the future me won't ahve to do them and my stress level stays down. I suspect that this would be a great benefit for the quality of the work that I do. So that iss the goal. I think it will need some time to make his happen, because I try this for some time now and still sturggle immensly. Writing it down will make finding excuses harder though.

Did some stuff. Did my habits. Did face some challenges. Everything is ok.

11.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 3/30)

I didn't clean for 30min but I cooked a time expensive meal. But this is no excuse so i will make today the time to do 60min of cleaning. I thought about breaking the chain but as long as this is an exception and I don't start doing this every week I am ok. So I allow myself not to break the chain over it. 

I feel like headspace is keeping me focussed on the meditation. Without it I would stopped doing it a few times now. I am very excited how it will change me if I keep doing it day for day.

12.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 4/30)

I finished the foundation of headspace. I upgraded my daily meditation time to 20min. 10min seemed to little time to get to a peaceful mind sometimes.

I also tidied up the cellar yesterday. I searched something and thought: Fuck it. Now is the time.

Was overdue anyway so I am feeling good about spending my cleaning time on this. I stayed this morning at home to get some stuff done. But I will go to work later (around 8am). Another try to be productive  alone at home. I feel good so far. Let's see how it evolves during the morning.

13.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 5/30)

Soon a week! I think I have found the right level of difficulty for my daily habits. It isn't easy but I am sure that I can keep it up. Interestingly I start seeing an improvement from meditating. I was never able to see any positive changes from Meditation, but lately I feel more aware of myself and my usage of time. That doesn't mean that I am way more productive or anything. But the time seems to go slower. The day isn't suddenly gone anymore. I realize that I am procrastinating and can watch me sometimes at doing it.Awareness is more interesting then I thought.

Also meditating for 20min is surprisingly hard in comparison to the 10min sessions :) Let's see if this changes over time.

not much time today

Thanks. I guess a lot of work and to be seldom alone at home helps. But at the rare occasions I am alone at home I am definetely tempted to do YouTube binges or porn. That's why I put my usual pornsite and YouTube on leechblock and am surprisingly successful in telling me that there is no way to get around this without alot of effort. Lying to myself was always a strength of mine :D. I still procrastinate. But instead of YouTube I watch Job offerings and think about what cool things I could learn to get btter/more interesting/cooler Jobs. But I am getting better slowly.

15.12.2016 (Daily Habits Day 0/30)

I missed two little things. didn't prepare my breakfast and didn't shave myself. I wasn't at home the whole day. I did plan some time in the mornign for excercise and cleaning and got it done. But I forgot about the other two things and as I came home at 23:30 I doesn't want to wake my wife so I just didn't do it. Should have done them in the mornign too. I actually don't know if I keep this Journal up further online.  I rather talk more with my wife over emotional stuff wich goes on in my life then with a online community (even such an awesome one). And I feel like I need less and less accountability from others. I know when I am doing bad things. I also do spend a lot of time here where I should work/study. I'll think I start a private hand written journal from tomorow on and check in here only at the Weekends to see how everyone is doing and leave some support or to report about some challenges like my daily-habit-challenge.

I hope you guys/girls keep doing well but that's something which will be beneficial for me.

Hi people,

It is strange to write a private journal but it has a lot of benefits. I  don't have to think about privacy and I can write in German. I also sticked to emditating 20min everyday

Christmas this year was a little underwhelming. I hope that today will be more fun. It was nice to see everyone though and I played a lot of chess with a relative I don't really connect otherwise which was fun, The week wasn't bad even if I broke my habit streak and don't want to get back. It was just to stressful for the relation wiht my wife if I would spend every day 1,5hours away from here for exercise/cleaning/shaving/and making breakfast. Especially at two weekdays were I come home late and only have around 2hours of free time before bed this wasn't ideal. I decided to change my exercise plan and just clean at this days. I was looking forward to this holidays but they are shorter then I thought. I'll ahve only 5 days to train for my ISTBQ-Certified Tester certificate,starting my exam preparation for these exams in february and doing some things for my thesis. I don't see time right now for my embedded MooC For embedded systems I wanted to do intensively his holidays. This sucks. I just want to do too much. Also it will be challenging for me to use all thsi free time when my wife isn't there. THis was always hard for me but I think with proper planning and the usage of some willpower it will be ok.

RE: Meditation

The easiest way I have found to do meditation is to cross my ankles sitting comfortably in a chair.  Relax my shoulders, join my hands and relax my eyelids to about half closed.  Then listen.  I set an alarm.

Hey congratulations on reading the 34 sites of rambling. I hope you can take smth. out of it. I read the article and while I see some points are useful (i.e. taking action right now). What I dislike is the approach to try to shame everyone who is living a compromise. This general approach of following your passion no matter what has some big flaws. I personally believe in finding the passion in your existing live instead of changing your life after your passion. You discover a passion by doing smth instead of doing sth. out of passion. Also I don't believe in a soul or destiny for me. Imho I am here because I am here and that is enough.
 I do meditate with headspace which is an app for guided meditations. In the pro series I do right now is is basically just an introduction followed by a lot of sitting in silence while watching your breath and your thoughts. Taen after ~19min he comes back in your ears and guides you back into reality. I really enjoy this daily practice right now.

Right now I am still writing in a textfile.. The portability and accesibility of computerfiles is nice too. And I like the practice of 10finger typing whcih improves my codewriting speed also. But I might still change to an handwritten journal later on if I want to reduce my computer time.
