Day 90! BOOYA!

finish detox: check

feeling awesome : check

Hey guys, I actually did it and it is a nice feeling. It shows me that I can achieve things with the proper planning and some time and motivation. I can do everything which is possible for other humans out there. Thanks to all in this forum and to our "guru" Cam( don't think I will kneel know though ;)). It was  a hell of ride and still is because I have many things I want to tackle now. I cancelled yesterday a LAN-Party which I planned to attend after the detox. I just don't feel like to spent a weekend gaming. With Linux Mint on my computer installing oldschool-games would be a hazzle and for the new games my computer is too weak anyway. It feels like I left a big weight behind me and can now stand up again and face the world.

I will stick to the community and I will continue writing here but I'll try a weekly format  for now and exchange the gratitude journal with a personal gratitude meditation.

I want to be more productive now and finally stick to my morning routine. I limited my Gamequitters time to 45min/day with Leechblock and won't have the time to read every journal know that so much new ones appear (which is awesome btw). Also I will focus on getting a little bit buffed after my last exam next Tuesday. I all ready started my training so it is time to get serious with nutrition( this is a good time anyway because my wife tries to loose weight and so I can support her this way). I plan to monitor what I eat with the same app my wife is using. After 2 weeks of monitoring I will measure my average calorie intake and eat a little more whilst focussing on the right balance of macro nutritions.

This summer I will be mentally and physically in the shape of my life. People in games told me to get a life. Suck it bitches :D!

Meditation(20min/day):  Day 4

Jogging/Bw-Exercise(20min/40min 6days/week):  Day 4

Daily plan(at the end of the working day + in the morning):  Day  4

Congrats mate! It's great that after reaching the 90-day milestone that you're already setting yourself more goals to aim for, which is what I intend to do myself in 18 days or so :P

Hell yea! Mad Pharmacist is proud of you!

Once you supported me on my journaling, now I have to congrat you and your own.

That's a great step and great beggining of the journey. Journey called game-free life.

Just don't screw this up man like I did on 105th day. Never get too cocky like I was.

24.4.2016 (1week after detox)

The week went well, the hardest part was to meditate and exercise on a day when I had a hangover. I don't drink very often but if I do i tend to go over the top a bit. It was a fun evening but with 2 beers less it would be still fun and I would had a way easier next day. The day after the hangover incident I was just lazy and didn't do any studying or working. Funnily I felt bad in the evening and out of balance. I realized that I got used to some basic level of regular studying(like 1-3 hours) a day and if I don't do something mentally taxing I grow bored.

Mhh i realize right now that it is hard to remember the thoughts and insides you had a few days before but I think this weekly journalling will help my to focus on the important or impact-full things.

What could I do better?

I didn't study enough because I have only one exam left and it doesn't give that much credits that's why I feel a lack of motivation sometimes. I still did something but not enough.

I was close to relapsing into porn(I haven't committed to stop porn but I try not to use it any more) but I caught myself at the porn site and decided not to do it.

I did disable my leechblock sometimes. Mainly though because I want to watch some sites where advertisment or other videos where shown with my banned keywords. Nothing too serious.

What worked out good?

I stuck to all my streak goals and being committed made all the difference. There was no thinking of the importance of the tasks. I knew the reasons I committed to them and why I need to stick to them and just did it. It is awesome to be consistent with things.

I made goals for my running. Until now this was mainly cardio  between my Bw-Training. But I decided that i will run the local half-marathon in a year. Now you could ask why exactly this half-marathon and why in a year? Well I did run it a few years ago and failed my goals there(wanted to finish jogging). I needed close too 3 hours too finish it, drank a mixed bear afterwards and was so exhausted that I had to vomit in public. Now I want to do it again the right way. Enough consistent and planned training in front of it. My (ambitious) goal is to run it in under 90min. That' why I need a year of preparation. Right now I need 30min for 5k. If you scale this up and add some time for the longer distance I would need like 2hours and 30min to finish it at my present fitness state. My plan is to do each week a longer run( this week a 7k) and one run with sprints included to increase my average time.

I also started tracking my eating with an app(FatSecret) and did 10min of yoga in front of my running and at my breakday. Maybe I will make this an additional daily habbit but we'll see. Right now I have the time because I don't work but if I finally find an internship, it may be hard to stick to all these plans.

I did start reading the slight edge again and spent some awesome time with my wife. It was a very social week too, with me going out for 3 times. I was glad that I cancelled additional plans at the weekend so I could recover from sleeping to little and catch up on studying.

Goals for next week:

- found another side job to earn some cash now that it needs some more time to fin an internship

- cleaned the apartment thorough and made a cleaning plan.

- finished my work project at my actual side job

- catch up on some actual studying of statistics.

- stick to my commitments

Hell yea, you're rockin'!

I see you did extremely great choice to turn off porn website. It could only get worse if you'll start watching porn.

I really like your scheduled style of weekly summarising, I need to implement it in my journaling to have better point of view in my life.

Even though you're after the detox you're still learning from what you've done (like last hangover) and that's great attitude you've gained by setting yourself game free.

Wish you the best on next week! Btw. I have to catch up on statistics too this week! We'll see if you'll do that better than Mad Pharmacist! :D

30.4.2016 (two weeks after detox)

The week was not that good. I failed most of my weekly goals. I didn't find(or searched intensively) for another job. I didn't finished my work project and will have a lot of work next week with it. Also I didn't made a cleaning plan how I realise now.  And I thought it would be a good idea to try playing hearthstone again now that my detox is over. Binged for 6hours and didn't do the things I wanted to do. Then I was so annoyed at me and at that game that I deleted it, sat down for my daily meditation and did my bw-training. Got also some cleaning done after that. But this was the shittiest day of the week. Moderation is definitely not working for me.

What could I do better?

Really commit to my goals. Right now they where such things I wished to have done not things I really committed to. I have to get my mind  realising that these things are important for me, or otherwise I wouldn't put them on the weekly goal list. Maybe it helps if I write the reasons down why I want to do them. This helped me in the past so I see no reason why it shouldn't help me here.

What worked out good?

I crushed my last exam. First A I ever got at university. It was only a relatively small exam but it was pretty hard and I am really happy about it.

I also did stick to my meditation and exercising goals. And I made another weekly goal list for my running and exercising. This helps me to monitor my progress and I actually enjoy it very much. Also my wife told me that she can see my training having an effect on my posture and that I all ready built my muscles up a bit:) .I did also 10min yoga five times this week in addition to the rest of my activities because I see it helping my bodyweight exercises if I am stretched and it is a good preparation for my meditation. Onve the activity front everything is all right.

I also did my planning everyday.  I got a positive answer for an application to my internship. I have to clear some organisational thing swith the university first, because it should be an industrial internship but this internship  would be at a research facility so I need to get the ok from the responsible Professor. I all ready wrote him an email where I made my case and informed the research facility. Now all I can do is wait.

Goals for next week:

- stick to my exercise plan and fulfil my goals

- plan less activities per day but do them ( will give me control over my daily actions and let me be intentional about my day)

- finish my work project( this will free  my mind  and makes room for other obligations like a new job or the internship)

- make that damn cleaning plan (It will make my life more enjoyable and will reduce the main reason why I argue with my wife, It will also makes cleaning easier because I do it regular and a base level is always done, this way I have the possibility to do extra cleaning work if I am motivated but don't have to do it because the apartment looks nice all ready

- start studying the statistics and make a study plan.(this time i will be prepared for the exam in 2months and I will crush it hard!)

Good job with your exam. Sometimes we need a week like this to remind us of what we need to do to be successful. Whenever we have many good days/weeks in a row we start to think we don't need to do the things that got us there in the first place. This is a good reminder to stay focused on what's working well and double down on it.

Good job with your exam. Sometimes we need a week like this to remind us of what we need to do to be successful. Whenever we have many good days/weeks in a row we start to think we don't need to do the things that got us there in the first place. This is a good reminder to stay focused on what's working well and double down on it.

I can relate to this very easily, as I slacked off doing my daily habits once I was succeeding through them. I am now keeping mindful of those things and have included the minimum I want to get done in my 'habit success streak' requirements.

Perhaps a good way to better commit to your goals would be to visualise them. I don't mean just through visualisation methods, but having a picture or quote (or both) on your wall can be a helpful and powerful reminder of what you want to do and who you want to be through achieving your goals. The combination of both makes my visualisation a lot easier! If you'd like some ideas, check out the ones I use that are in my journal on page 22 if you haven't seen them already.

All the best for achieving your goals this week Mario!

You are making huge strides in your journey, and it's always inspirational to read your journal.  Keep it up, and wishing you steady improvement for this week and throughout the month of May.  You got your game-plan down, and I have no doubt you'll achieve these goals with the way you are progressing!

Thanks Danni,

I'm glad that you're back btw. I always enjoy reading you posts. Lately things go to slow for my liking but I try to work now with more positive limitations of my time. I explain more at my staujrday update.

Mario, you do what you gotta do.  I understand that life gets hectic, and that always comes first before posting in forums.  Hope all is well with ya, and take care.

7.5.2016 (three weeks after detox)

It was another mixed week. But I feel like I'm back on track. I feel like I am changing and evolving and that is great. I think after finishing my detox I was kind of satisfied and gone through an experimentation phase. How does it feel to play this game after I am "allowed" to play it (didn't work out). Maybe I could try watch e-sports (was fun but stopped to be interesting after I realized I don't have the time to become good at gaming again). In addition to this there is a uncertainity about was coming next and how much time I have. This led into the old habit of postponing by getting my entertainment at world wide web. I read a lot in gamequitters and fitness. Watched a ton of youtube videos about strength training and calisthenics and realised after a while that I was doing everything all right and it just needs some time and consistency. I was back to just taking information in but not applying it. I just watched that much because it led me evade some difficult work stuff or facing new challenges.

Because I have these tendencies I decided to stop using the internet for passing my time. I can read or do sports or stretch but I aren't allowed to read or watch things which do not really interest me on the internet just to spent my time. I started this last Wednesday and it worked out fine. I wasn't ultra productive after the change but I feel like I want to be productive again.

What could I do better?

Prioritise better. Seems like I am not able right now to do all the things I wished to do. Maybe this was because of all the postponing but I haven't got far with my goals. It is ok I am not perfect and at least this shows me where I need improvement and what is scary for me. But I need to find 1-2tasks which are hard for me and have priority. Then  can focus on them. It worked with gamequitting and it worked with exercise. These two points aren't hard any more. Sometimes challenging but these are challenges I am used to.

Now I have to analyse what are the next important things. Spontaneously I would say my social relationships and invest time into myself to increase my qualification for future jobs are these most important things. On the sidelines I will try to face more fears and get my cleaning done.

relationships > work/study > overcome fears > stick to cleaning schedule

What worked out good?

Training and running was awesome this week. Yesterday I wanted to run 7km because I want to prepare my body slowly for longer runs. Ran 9-10km instead because I took a wrong path and it felt awesome.

I skyped around an hour with Tyrone and even if it was scary to talk in English I still did  it. Even if I was a little to talkative for my liking I enjoyed it and I think we can both greatly benefit if it becomes a regular thing.

I used some of my freetime to dive deeper in the Linux world and it was fun :D

I made a cleaning schedule for the week and stick to most of it. This will be  a weekly thing now.

Did some yoga together with my wife what we both enjoyed. And had a lot of social time last week

Goals for next week:

- finish this damn work project ;)

- no entertaining myself through browsing

- stick to my cleaning schedule

PS: Maybe less goals and just spending some more time on doing good not goal related things will do the trick. we'll see.
