Ninety Days Worth the Pain

Yeah, I keep my phone in another room when I'm sleeping. I use a basic analog alarm clock to wake up. That way the last thing I see is not a screen, and the first thing I see is not a screen either. Highly recommended!

Analog alarms can't wake me up. I have to use Alarmy with a super loud alarm sound and solve 4 really difficult math problems to turn it off! 😐

Day 17 (January 29th, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

I am feeling very happy since I am back at school. A sense of nostalgia is also burning inside me when I met my girl and guy friends from Intensive* last semester. I begin to be much busier and tired, but I am still content for now.

What Did You Do?

1. I got myself ready for college.

2. I had English class with Nadia and Eli (one of my guy friends from my Intensive) at 8 in the morning.

3. I had Chemistry class next with Nadia, Bella, and Ahmed (another guy friend from Intensive).

4. I had a long break from 10:30 to 2:00 in the afternoon. I also met more of my girl and guy friends and we talked about our holidays and schedules**.

5. I had ICT (abbreviation of Information and Communication Technology) with Nadia, Ahmed, and Damon (another guy friend from Intensive).

6. I went back to home by 3:30 in the afternoon.

7. I talked with my aunt's friend.

8. Other than dinner, I was studying Chemistry and Math.

Writer's Notes

* Intensive: It is one of my college's Foundation programs in which you only take 3 months in the first semester instead of the normal 6 months in the same semester.

** Everyone (including me) in Intensive used to have roughly the same schedules, but nearly everyone has different schedules now. So we have this unexpected (but also special) bond whenever we saw each other and had class together. It makes me want to hug them when I get to meet them again today. 🤗

- 17th day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)

- I interacted with my friends confidently. (H)

- I paid attention to the teachers. (H)

- I adjust my speaking volume appropriately depending to the situation. (H)

- I studied without procrastinating. (H)

- I talked before my friends finished, maybe due to my excitement and impulsiveness. (L)

- I made a mistake in talking about me being sad and mad about the room change with my aunt's friend. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

My mom told me today that I should be more patient, and I also personally feel that I should be more patient in many circumstances. You can't change yourself overnight, which is why patience is also another key to successfully changing yourself.

Day 18 (January 30th, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

I am feeling tired, and yet I feel satisfied as well.

What Did You Do?

1. I went to college like normal.

2. I had Chemistry first, then Math, English, and ICT.

3. It was showering outside when I went back home.

4. I made some tabs for my subjects in one folder.

5. I did my night routine (i.e. brushing my teeth)  before I studied.

6. I studied English and Math.

Along the Day: I also talked with my friends about more of our holidays, classes, and everything that is going on in our lives. Nadia and I also sort of played matchmaker on Eli and a girl in our English class (there are actually many English teachers in our college, so we do not get to see our other friends). 😂

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 18th day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)

- I did not procrastinate again! 😀 (H)

- I approached today with a positive attitude, despite being tired. (H)

- I didn't really pay attention on the bus station, so I missed my bus. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

I should keep up with my positive attitude, and I think that's all for now.

Got it in college because I would wake up early and I didn't want to wake up my roommate. Unlike regular alarm clocks which I start ignoring after a month or two, this one lasted me 4 years (and I wasn't using the sound function, which is annoyingly loud).

The bed shaker is so strong, I had it under my mattress, not my pillow like the instructions recommend.

Day 19 (January 31st, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

I am happy as yesterday and few days ago.

What Did You Do?

1. I read the journals in the forum and comment on several of them while I was on my way to college.

2. I had chemistry with Nadia, Bella, and Ahmed the first thing I had again.

3. I had math class and made friends with two girls from Malaysia. I also spot a cute guy during the class.

4. I went to the training session for peer mentoring*, since I am going to be a peer mentor.

5. I had ICT with Nadia, Ahmed, and Damon until 1 in the afternoon.

6. I kept Nadia company along with Eli, Ian, Kelvin, Paul, and Ahmed for an hour, since Bella and Yuri had classes. We talked about the cute guy from U.A.E.** and our crushes and exes. I also told them about my new book (mentioned in Day 3) about my past and current crushes.

7. When they had their classes, I went back to home.

8. I studied, even though I have a pretty long break.

Writer's Notes

* Peer Mentor: Students that help their fellow students in managing and improving their studies.

** The Cute Guy from U.A.E.: I actually first met him when I was on the Orientation Week's Treasure Hunt. I happened to be guiding his group as a Student Leader. He is actually from Afghanistan, but lived at U.A.E. for a long time. I have to admit that he is quite cute and charming.

- 19th day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)

- I joined in with my friends when I could have gone home. (H)

- I was prepared for most of my classes. (H)

- I also engaged myself in my classes. (H)

- I made two new friends in my math class (all of my closer friends are not in my math class). (H)

- I sometimes replied/answer too quick when someone is talking to me. (L)

- I forgot my sunglasses in college. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

While being busy is good, sometimes I need a break from being too busy, as I tend to forget other priorities.

I was at an 800ish person conference over new years and lost my sunglasses as well, I know the pain 😞

I'd just retrieved them from having left them at a friends months earlier too

Day 20 (February 1st, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

I feel happy and energetic during the day, but tired at the night, so I want to go to sleep instead of updating like usual.

What Did You Do?

1. I had Math first thing in the morning. I was doing my homework when a student asked me about a math question on the quiz online.
2. I had Chemistry with Nadia, Bella, and Ahmed like normal.
3. I made a comic strip about my friends (both girls and guys) about us body swapping.
4. I also talked with my friends.
5. I had English again with Nadia and Eli. We were working in different groups for analyzing a story called "Cemetery Path."
6. I moved my stuffs back to my room because my aunt's friend is leaving.
7. I checked out some of the journals in the forum.
8. I continued on writing my comic.
9. I did my math homework before going to bed.

- 20th day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)
- I helped a fellow student with his math problems. (H)
- I forgot to organize my stuffs during the break (all of my stuffs are scattered on a particular area of space). (L)
- I responded too quickly to conversations. (L)

I was about to study, but ending up writing a comic strip. I should be back to studying in the weekends.

Day 21 (February 2, 2019)

Writer's Note

This is actually my double post for today, so this is it without further ado.

How Are You Feeling?

I am feeling normal, and yeah...

What Did You Do?

1. I studied ICT after my morning routine.
2. I did the dishwasher and cleaned the floors of my bedroom and the toilet.
3. After lunch, I took the dried clothes and bedsheets inside.
4. I did some questions for English homework.
5. I had a talk with my grandmother and Eve, who just came from the airport via bus.
6. I did some more questions.
7. I talked with Eve about what has been happening to us lately.
8. We also talked together with my grandmother.

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 21st day (or 3 weeks) of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)
- I did my work from ICT and English (I am finished with English). (H)
- I had the initiative to clean up. (H)
- I speak while laughing, which is considered to be unattractive. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

I must not make excuses for continuing my bad habits, which is whenever I responded strangely to many social situations.

Day 22 (February 3rd, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

It is pretty similar to what I felt yesterday.

What Did You Do?

1. I went to church with Eve and the rest of the family.

2. My grandmother, Eve, and I then went to the shopping mall to buy clothes for Chinese New Year.

3. After we arrived at home, I went on to study and doing my work from ICT.

4. I exercised for about 30 to 40 minutes before reading more fanfictions.

5. I studied Chemistry, but I took a break to eat my dinner before resuming on it.

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 22nd day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)

- I was back at exercising (again). (H)

- I was studying what I am supposed to study. (H)

- I followed my sister too often (my copycat tendencies are getting me 😑). (L)

- I did not consider the prices of the clothes we bought. I have another bad habit in which I let others spend the expensive things that I want to buy. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

The next time I went to a store with somebody, I should see the price for each product. I also must follow my own path and decisions, not other people all the time.

How Are You Feeling?

I feel so tired and sleepy, but definitely not depressed about it.

What Did You Do?

1. I had Math first thing.

2. I had English with Nadia and Eli.

3. I spent time with Nadia since all of our friends are all in their classes.

4. I had ICT with Damon and Ahmed.

5. I spent time talking with Nadia, Yuri, and Paul before going home.

6. I studied a bit of Chemistry, English, and ICT.

7. My cousins came over for Chinese New Year Dinner.

8. I studied Math, even though there is no Math the next day.

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 23rd day of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)

- I did all of my work without procrastinating. (H)

- I had the initiative to clean up the table after the dinner. (H)

- I should be paying attention when Eve mopped the floors. (L)

- I responded to conversation too quickly again. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

The one weakness that I am currently trying to overcome is my impulsiveness, especially in social situations. I tend to go with my guts rather than with my head when I am excited or mad.

It's totally a thing. Originally designed for deaf people, but works just as well for those who can hear 🙂 Like I said, I used it as a silent alarm so that I don't wake up my roommate in the early hours of the morning. Worked for me just fine for ~4 years, no sound needed.

Day 24, 25, and 26 (February 5th-7th, 2019)

Sorry, I will be very busy, so I might not update my journal everyday. Thank you for reading. 😉

How Are You Feeling?

It is a bottle full of feelings. Since I am recently very busy, I cannot tell if I feel happy, sad, mad, but I am definitely tired. But by the end of the second day, I felt humbled after being told off by Eve.

What Did You Do?

Feb. 5

1. I went to college like normal.
2. I spent time with my friends for about half an hour before going home.
3. I had early Chinese New Year supper as soon as I arrived home.
4. I studied and did my homework.

Feb. 6

1. I went to college.
2. I studied and did my homework.
3. Eve told me off when I refused the orange juice my aunt gave me because I don't appreciate people.
4. Eve and I talked for the rest of the night.

Feb. 7

1. I went to college.
2. I watched a show called Scooby-Doo with Eve and my cousin for about half an hour.
3. After I ate dinner, I went on to take the clothes from the clothesline and iron them.
4. I played Monopoly with Eve and my cousin.
5. I studied and did my homework.

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 24th, 25th, and 26th days of not playing games or watching YouTube. (H)
- I did nearly all of my work. (H)
- I was much more productive these days. (H)
- I unintentionally screamed at class. (L)
- I read something inappropriate again! (L)
- I don't appreciate others (especially when my aunt gave me orange juice and I don't want to. Eve told me off about that). (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow?

I should be more thankful and grateful towards others and not being self-centered and prideful.

Day 27-31 (February 8th-12th, 2019)

How Are You Feeling?

I feel many feelings, but overall sadness, frustration, a bit of anger (towards myself), and boredom.

What Did You Do?

1. My family and I went out for dinner at Friday.

2. We went out again to a family friend's house at Saturday.

3. For Sunday, we went to church.

4. I went to college yesterday and today.

5. I have peer mentoring in the afternoon.

6. I did my homework and study.

Highs (H) and Lows (L)

- 27th through 31st days of not playing games or watching YouTube. It has been a month. (H)

- I was productive when I have no one in my peer mentoring session. (H)

- I tried my best to pay attention to my classes. (H)

- I socialize with my friends like normal. (H)

- I still act as though I want them all without returning (e.g. I was asking my aunt for conditioner when I should have been thinking about a way to buy it on my own). (L)

- I don't appreciate others (ties in with the above Low), even though I tried too. (L)

- I am still not quite aware of my surroundings/use my brain. (L)

- I am being too afraid to make mistakes. (L)

- I caused my mom to panic yesterday because of what I say to her. (L)

What Can You Do Better Tomorrow/The Next Few Days?

Again, I should be more thankful and grateful towards others, not being self-centered and prideful, and use my brain to my maximum capacity. At the same time, I acknowledge that these changes will not be instant.
