That's not stupid. I think it's actually a smart idea to focus on one thing at a time. Maybe I could try that too.

Day 129/180 GameQuitters/StopGaming

Soooo busy these last couple of days, non-gamers! But I have a little something to share from yesterday:

TBC was released, I've been watching some Twitch streams, I do have an urge but again I think I'm at the point now when I know that sure it's easy to watch a stream, but the amount of time I'd have to dedicate again to it is just way too much, I wouldn't be able to function properly.

With games, if you watch them on stream or a YouTube video or whatever, you always think of the current 'cool' moment, highlight, that initial feeling of booting up a game. But then you just know, once 30 minutes or so have gone by, it's that brain fog, that tiredness, that disconnection from reality and ALL of that time that has been killed by gaming, especially something like WoW.

Not worth it.

People already complaining about how bad TBC is, happens every time. I saved so much time not playing it, my gut instincts are always right about games nowadays!

Until tomorrow!

Bad or not bad, you indeed saved SO MUCH time not playing it. Every minute that you didn't play is a minute saved in fact. You've got that much closer to the potential fulfillment of your potential.

But I'd even avoid checking any news in it's regard.
From my experience, the precursor of a relapse is always the seemingly "harmless" checking of the game's forums, some YouTube videos in regarding to the game, or some small browser game. If you can avoid those seemingly smaller stimulations, your mind is staying busy with images that contribute to other goals, rather than launching poisonous visualizations of gaming. Avoid the first check regarding the games news like the plague. At least that's what I try to do, and so far it seems to work in the last 385 days or so.

Of course it's hard in the beginning, but I'd say it raises your chances to avoid relapses down the road, as you build routines without even thinking about games. I think I had months where not even a thought about games crossed my mind. And when it does I am aware of it, and it usually happens at a harder moment. Which I then understand as a cue to simply keep going on the right path. I do not deny the fact that the thought crossed my mind, nonetheless I try to replace it with thinking about my other tasks. There's quite a lot to think about in those too

P.S. I had two relapses in the last few years so far as I remember. One was a result of constantly visualizing how "good" it was to play games and how I want to return to it. It often happened during "hard" workouts.

The second one was right before a fast day 36-40 hour-ish. I always dread this day. Moreover it was Middle of January, so the coldest time of the year. And my hands were broken from eczema(hand dryness/ skin on hands cracking upon bending of fingers) making every action that more painful.

This year I had these thoughts around the same period. But I just recognized it for what it is... We have ups and downs in life. Just got to acknowledge that this is what is happening, and let the thoughts come and pass, while observing them meditatively. (I also journaled about it here, what made me be clearer about the fact that it is what is happening)

Let me know if this makes any sense to you. Best wishes!!! And see you at the top? :) ;)

Man, I most probably need to reduce the length of these messages. It's turning into an escape mechanism for me for the second day in a row, instead of sparing the precious minutes for sleep =/

👍 I usually tend to give myself a few days when promising such things. You never know what happens tomorrow :) But I respect your willingness to commit to a shorter period nonetheless. Until tomorrow then, if god allows it.

Yes I did actually say at the very start I'd clear all gaming media so I wasn't tempted, I said I'd do it by the end of the year (2025) but I didn't, BUT the good thing is I haven't been tempted to play games by viewing such media, so that's a least a big step forward. But yes I do ideally need to quit all gaming media. Nah the length is good, it's also good for newer members to read it as well, gives them good insights into the minds of non-gamers!

I'll see you ALL (especially you, @Yan ), at - NOT JUST - the top, but the VERY TOP!

If I understand correctly, you mean you haven't given in to the temptation, not that there was no temptation.
Do I understand correctly? If so, you needed to exercise discipline. When that is the case, the more time passes, the less likely you are to stick to a new routine. If you cut it out, you might not even think of gaming, and therefore, not need to exercise discipline whatsoever on some days :) The thing is that it will of course require discipline to build a habit where you don't watch these videos, but in the long run it will save you big quantities of required willpower.

Easier said than done, I know I know! But it still needs to be said :)

Way to go of course on not giving in to temptations. Proud of you, that's nothing to be underestimated, not at all!

May you have an awesome day, whenever you read it. Make it two awesome days, if you read it in the evening :)
