  1. I was reading what Simms said about engineering and i want to add that choosing a particular field doesnt gurantee liberation. There is a dark side and good side to every industry. Im doing structural engineering right now and man there is so many ways you can become corrupt or immoral. When your client is the contractor, and they only care about keeping the cost down, there is so much pressure to sacrifice the safety of the building because you get no financial reward for making things safe. In the last comapny i worked for, they really didnt give a shit about safety and only about money. Lots of illegal things happening in that company. I quit after a women brought a knife to work and threatened to kill people. Anyways im trying to be positive here. Im working for a client who is an architect company doing sustainable, net zero carbon footprint buildings right now. Im good friends with one of the designers and Im really into making the world better and helping the environment so i find the job super fulfilling. I can only say about my own experiences but im sure other fields are the same, there are always opportunities to walk the dark side or light side. Im sure there are great people every field. Good to hear that you are doing workouts. I like to encourage people to exercise because of all the scientific evidence on the benefits of exercise. There are scientific research that shows exercise is better at combating depression than any antidepressant. Im not saying you are depressed or anything like that, but one could infer from that study that exercise should makes people feel really good. But i do have one buddy with a rare disease and exercise just makes him dizzy so i dont know.
  2. Some people like getting burned out and some dont. The guy i worship Elon Musk works 80 to 100 hours a week, and he is a real life superhero but he divorced multiple times so yeah. I wish i could work 80 hours a week while maintaining mh health and everything else
  3. Nice journal! Congrats on the large number of days. Personally ive stopped using a laptop and I've been using an app called Quality Time for my phone and found the app helpful so maybe it would be helpful for you too. Good luck on ur exam!

thanks. I feel bored without any form of entertainment right now but i believe that i will be more engaged and interested in things over time. So far things are okay. To be honest i am just writing here because i had a craving to surf the net. So far things are okay. I am using the app QualityTime to keep track of my internet usage. Ive been reading this book called the resilience factor. I realize that one thing that i have a deep issue with is acceptance. I need to stop thinking silly thoughts like others dont like me, and i need to stop caring about being liked. Maybe some people dont, but a lot of that is outside of my control and doesnt really make a difference in my life. Thats it for now, back to focusing on life.

Right now i believe that the best way to motivate myself is to take action. Taking action leads to more action. This is especially crucial when you dont have pressing deadlines to motivate you. I think thats the thing about relationships as well. When its going well its easy to feel lazy about working on the relationship, but no i want to keep making things better. Same with schooling. Working hard starting from day one and trying to get things done early is important.
  6. do you have recommendations for resources on what a healthy diet would look like?

Just done muay thai class. I opened youtube out of habit. I dont think that counts because i didnt watch any videos. I going to spend more times doing chores and installing things around the house because thats one of the easiest way to make my fiance happy. Shes a really organized person. Im was reading about crispr gene engineering method. Looks like we may be able to reverse aging and make super babies in the future. Maybe if we arw lucky we will be able to live over a hundred years old but be kinda retarded compared with the future generation of super babies.
  8. Hi, i am from Canada and I do things like work, workout, and hang out with my fiance. I had big priblems with gaming. I am halfway through the gamesquitters challenge. I owe cam $100 if i fail the challenge or if i complete it. I am doing my own challenge with noporn/nonews/noyoutube/noreddit/healthyeating/less than 70mg of caffeine per day For 1 week from now. If i fail that I owe cam or the gates foundation $80. Thanks for reading.
  9. Nice. Good to hear about your improvements!
  10. Thinking too far in the future and expecting too much is not good. I just need to take things one action at a time.
  11. Although i am interested in doing something big in the future, like aid the transitiom to artificial intelligence government or partially block out the sun with geoengineering or jusr donating large amounts od excess money
  12. Diggin the no news challenge. Good job coming up on 40 days! Hard to imagine that, looking forward to seeing the bigger milestones myself. i may have a problem with news because i want to get involved with everything that i have no or little control over. I just need to accept that human nature is flawed and i should just focus on my job of designing environmentally sustainable housing and help those around me - things that i can control. things are okay so far. Social skills level plus one
  13. @Cam Adair @Simms @Dolocorp Thanks so much! Will do all of this when i have time amd report back.
  14. Lvl 1 timber design. Things are going okay right now, about to break my 40 days no gaming record soon. Everything is running more or less smoothly
  15. Started using a leveling system past 1.5 weeks ago So far Lvl 1 cooking Lvl 1 discipline Lvl 1 sip panel design Lvl 1 motivation Lvl 1 resilience
  16. Successfully completed my no news challenge. Next challenge is no reading the news until i finish reading the book The Resilience Factor by Karen Reivich, Ph.D and andrew shatte phd. If i read the news before then i owe cam 1o0 dollars. I need to build up my resilience first
  17. I'm asking because this is an area that I feel insecure about due to growing up without making lasting friends. Would like to know your experiences and what you learned about friendship.
  18. How about spending more time with people outside of online. Have you tried meetup? Are you in the Vancouver area?
  19. Remember what's helped you start making progress the last 3 weeks. Sometimes we forget to continue doing the thing that is working. In this case, not gaming. Keep it up! Thanks so much for doing this Cam! Just over 3.5 weeks without gaming now. 8 months since i first tried to quit games with game quitters. Lots of positive changes since then.
  20. Ive read some articles on resilience and done some Muay Thai. Felt better. Over 3 weeks without gaming now. At this point the challenge is dealing with my lows in a healthy way. I might start playing games after 90 days or 180 days. I dont know.
  21. Ive ordered a book called the Resilience Factor. Hopefully i can learn to be more resilient to things.
  22. Im having unhappy thoughts. Obsessing over games or surfing the net helps take my mind off things. I dont really have a good alternative.
