  1. Hm, I was about to mention here to keep in mind that willpower is a resource, which was the popular scientific consensus a few years ago, but then I double-checked and it looks like there are solid arguments disproving this research. Which is a relief to hear to me, because the original idea kind of facilitated learned-helplessness and I didn't sit with me right.

"if you're not working on it then you don't want to do it".

Yeah this is BS. If that were true, addicts would never follow their passions after recovery.

Just putting it out there: sometimes, due to their own low self-esteem, parents subconsciously don't want their children to succeed and/or leave home.

With the re-introduction to your old gaming community and friends: what is calling you back?  Is this a test to see if you can be in that environment and maintain the growth you've had over the past few months? Are you missing something from that former part of your life that you'd like to integrate into your new growth?

My suggestion is just follow your desire and see how it feels.  If you notice it is affecting your life and emotions in a negative way, cut back.  If it continues to do it, remove it until you feel comfortable.  If it continues to be the process of not feeling good about it then I'd remove it entirely.

I agree with this. You've completed 90 days and beyond and I think you've earned the right to attempt to rehabilitate yourself and to be able to play in moderation. But I would advise to be careful and to be extremely mindful of how you feel in your body as well as in your mind while you do it.

You want to not feel negative emotions towards this old hobby, which will be difficult because it's not just a 'hobby'. You had an obsessive/compulsive behavior towards it and it needs to be treated differently. As part of quitting, many addicts create negative affiliations to it, because it's easier to give up something you hate than to give up something you love. If you want to go back to loving, you have to be very strategic to not slip back to the old destructive behaviors. But I believe it's possible.

    ... IMHO ?

  4. You played paintball with an injured foot? Woah. I only played it two times but absolutely loved it. Even despite getting sweaty, which is something I despise haha. I also miss role playing games. It's such an amazing hobby, but hard to find the right people, the right place and the right time simultaneously.

  5. Hi Catherine, you haven't posted for a few days, I hope everything is OK! And even if not, just take it easy and check up on the forum for a bit, I find that it helps me whether I'm doing good or bad.

  6. I think everyone NEEDS to have both a positive and a negative vision.

You need to have a vision of your ideal life, of something you want to achieve, of something that matters to you that you think is worth fighting for. And on the other hand, you also need to have a vision of how your life would look like if you didn't try. The "worst case scenario" in a sense. That vision is scary. In life, both positive and negative motivation have value and are most effective together.

I thought about my mistakes. Maybe, I am sort of enjoying the feeling of commitment and determination...I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it feels so cool to start a detox, but this feeling fades away after a few days, and you feel down and you go on a binge, and then you decide you cannot go on like this and you go on a detox, which feels great, but then you are tired and it all happens again. I must meditate on that for a while. It may help.

I never thought about this, but it's kind of true for me too. After two or more weeks, it feels like the norm, it feels kinda boring. Like 'is that it' ? Just being normal? Where's all the world-conquering? It's like we want to do a 180 in a few weeks and become superstars. Maybe it's because taking a detox feels like becoming a superstar, because it's going from shit to normal so the improvement is huge. But then to go from normal to excellent takes exponentially longer and that's where the patience runs out.

You would be surprised how much overhead an online store runs when no one buys from it. ?

    Try me. How much? ?

Looks like you know what to do then, good luck!

EDIT: Damnit this reminded me of some old ideas I had for some weird-ass games myself and now I can't stop thinking about it haha.

  9. Just here to make this tiny point: Your accounts are worth much less guys ? Assuming the sum you give here is the amount of money you put into it. Since selling an account is against the TOS of steam and therefore has to be done through shady internet forums and the value of games goes down over time and the fact that you can't sell the games individually, the market price of your accounts would be significantly lower. You're not losing out on much, if it makes you feel better haha.

    Day 26/90

I am really in a bad place right now. Stuck in the 'Devil wears Prada' Universe.

They sent me back a reply considering my writing for the contest. I am not sure how I would put it correctly for you. Guess, I was just told to give head. My writing sucks, my skills suck, everything sucks. 'You are not writing for a newspaper, you know', 'Shove up that up in your arse'. Yeah, that's me, a glorious underdog. And there are they, knights in shining armours.  Screw them, honestly. I am only a doormat to people who pay me. When I take my time to write some decent stuff for everyone, not just for a bunch of retarded students, I expect to be critisized in a little more ethical way. I know I make mistakes, but...whatevs.

    I don't know what I shall say.

Wait, professionals actually told you to shove the writing up your ass? What the hell? ? Honestly, I would take it as a challenge. Transform the negative energy of whatever form you have, into anger, motivation and desire to prove them wrong. Haters gonna hate. Winners don't give a shit and keep improving.

Life is life. Some things cannot be changed. Others can be. But I can control my attitude.

This is very important. We cannot control everything external happening to us, but we can decide how we want to react to it. This is why some people can be perfectly happy in horrible conditions(poverty, prison, bad health), and others can be suicidal even though they have everything they could want(Robbie Williams of all people, for example, committed suicide).

With regards to Leo Gura's videos: It's important to realize that a piece of content can be useful to some people, while not as much to others. People find themselves in different situations and mindsets and need different strategies and view points to go forward. Taking his channel specifically, the videos from 5+ years are radically different than current ones and most of the new ones don't really resonate with me at this time, but probably will resonate with me once I achieve some of my immediate goals and get into spirituality and so on. Perspective is everything.

I feel you with being carefree and more happy in the past. Struggles and failures make you less confident and more fearful. But it can go the other way too. Succeeding can make some people become like their old past, or even better. A rare occurrence, but with the right mindset it happens.

  13. I think number 2 is not true, if you get just the cheapest open spot. If it helps you being in a caffee, this will help much more. Especially after you get to know some people over coffee-machine or water-cooler chats. And commuting for me is a great way to get my audiobook time in! hehe

A show I really like is coming out in that time period. I

Is it game of thrones season 8? ?

Besides that, going out of the house to a dedicated work place is key, some coffee shop can be good too, but you already know this. What I'm going to recommend that you might not have thought about is co-working spaces. The offices of my internship are at a co-working space and it's AMAZING. The absolute best thing ever for small companies and entrepreneurs(such as you!). At WeWork, you can get a solo spot for just 175e per month and you get unlimited free coffee, all kinds of office facilities such as kitchens, meeting rooms etc., lightning-fast internet and most importantly, the community of hard-working and motivated people. I live in an expensive city so it might be a lot cheaper depending where you live. In most countries, you can consider this monthly payment as office costs for taxation purposes, so you can write it off as expenses even as a solo entrepreneur.
