DAY -1

After many years of gaming - starting on the PS2, then onto Wii, then Xbox360, lastly PC - I came to a shocking realisation, I was addicted to gaming. I never thought I would have to deal with an addiction in my life. I'm 14, never drank/drugs. If anyone told me I had an addicition I would have laughed at them. I would also make fun of people being addicited to video games. After all, it's just a game, it's so easy to stop... right?

Wrong.

Today started by discovering GameQuitters - a priceless vault of infomation. After counting the coppers, I mention to Cam that I couldn't afford the expense of Respawn. Who kindly provided me with a copy of Respawn. Thank you everyone!

Having deleted all of my games of my hard drive, tommorrow is when I shall offically count down to 90 days.

Thank you everyone for allowing me the opportunity to get my life back into shape. I shall make the best of it!

DAY 1

I started today by looking through the hobby ideas PDF and hi-lighting the ones that appealed to me. Rock climbing was one that really grabbed my attention - therefore, I arranged a taster session in a couple of days. Today wasn't that much of a stuggle, I avoided boredom by finishing off a few airfix models that I had as ongoing projects.

It's nice to see you have started a journal. It's important to be busy at the beggining. It's good to have additional activities in case boredom gets you or you finish your daily plans far quicker than you've planned.  Keep up the good work.

Greetings, Piotr.

DAY 2

Firstly, can I just take some time to thank Cam for giving me the opportunity to get my life back into gear. If I had the monetary resources to support you, I would. Let me know if I can support you in other ways.

Today, I tried something new, however, something I wanted to try for a long time:

Cooking

I spent a few hours today practising my skills in the kitchen. The fruits of my labour; a cremated Victoria Sponge. :S I feel that due to - litteral - hours of free time, I am able to do activites that I pushed aside / delayed whilst gaming. This leads me to believe that gaming is a source of procrastination. No necessarily causing the procrastion, but rather, allowing the means for it to happen. Any further info on this?

Eugene

P.S. Sorry for the messed up timescale.

Hi Eugene, when I was your age I couldn't even wash the dishes properly because I always had someone to do it for me.

After you get one or two dishes cooked right, you will start enjoying cooking more!

Regarding your question, I think Cam calls it escapism, you can check his Youtube channel, there is a video talking about it.

Day 3

I attended a 1 hour rock climbing taster session today. This was the first time I had been seriously rock climbing and I enjoyed ever minute of it. Not only was it a great physical workout, the walls also presented a challenge, this lead to a sense of achievement. I am very surprised how gaming offers such a sense of accomplishmentfor doing nothing. Following this, I conviced my parents to allow me to participate in a learn to climb course (NICAS Level 1). I also signed up for Duolingo German today, I have had extra-curricular German lessons, and am looking forward to pursuing the language.

The list of benefits of stopping my gaming addiction justs seem to be getting longer and longer.
